Purpose: R&D activities, as well as its knowledge multidisciplinary fostered contribute to technology-based enterprises (TBE) seek innovation of products in continuous and collaborative ways. Enterprise capability to dealing with diversity, inimitable values, emotional and social links among individuals involved in changing is crucial for P&D succeed. Considering context, we follow to answer research question: How do TBE articulate relational capability to new products development (NPD)? Design/methodology/approach: Thereunto, a multiple cases study in four TBE is performed into biotech industry. Findings: Outcomes led to design a descriptive relational capability model associated with NPD which identify interactions and synergies that contribute to deeper knowledge in strategic alliances management in TBE for NPD. Research, Practical & Social implications: There are clear contributions to advance knowledge through this research in respect of deep analysis of relational capabilities into biotech TBE since they operate in a collaborative R&D system and partnership with outsiders to hunt opportunities, resources, and technologies. So, we have a social phenomenon to understand relational capabilities applied in NPD under a dynamic market influence.
Objective of the study: This article seeks to explore from bibliometrics with factor analysis, the conceptual bases of the thematic networks of technological cooperation and patents in biotechnology.Methodology: We performed an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) for quantitative analyses, using the BibExcel software and the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test (KMO) (SPSS software). The matrix of citations and quotations resulted in 86 articles, distributed in three factors, according to similarity analysis (Iramuteq software).Originality/relevance: The term “technological cooperation networks” is increasingly becoming widespread in academia and in the biotechnology sector. However, its concept comes from different theoretical fields, and in the literature, there is still a lack of convergence.Main results: The matrix of citations and quotations resulted in 86 articles, distributed in three factors, according to similarity analysis (Iramuteq software). The main contribution of the research was the identification of three converging factors, namely: 1) the central role of the biotechnology firm in articulating the knowledge, innovations, and technologies produced and disseminated in the technological cooperation networks; 2) the patent as a valuable resource that concentrates and highlights knowledge, innovations, and technological routes for the firm, its networks, and the industry; and 3) research conceived as a networked activity that promotes the intersection between science produced in universities, technologies conceived in firms, and the dissemination to industry and society of articles, patents, and innovations.Theoretical/methodological contributions: This study can contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge by identifying the converging factors of the conceptual field of technological cooperation networks in biotechnology.
Biotechnology applied to Plant Agribusiness (BPA) has become increasingly familiar. However, innovation effort determinants account for a gap that has yet to be fully investigated. Therefore, was examined the influence of technological cooperation and knowledge flow in the innovation efforts of countries. In methodological terms, 20,149 patents from the BPA sector were collected from the Derwent Clarivate database from 1998 to 2019. Regarding the main findings, it is worth highlighting the occurrence of greater innovation efforts in developed countries. However, from 2015 onwards, an increase in priority technologies was identified in developing countries, which then overtook developed countries in 2019. Finally, has been proven that technological cooperation has a positive effect on innovation efforts and that there is a tendency to generate new technologies with less reference to existing technological knowledge, perhaps as an avant-garde attempt to seek a competitive advantage, prioritizing new knowledge and, at the same time, technological distinction.
