This paper presents a brief review of the clinical and genetic aspects of bowel diseases in the following three categories: the simple Mendelian disorders with malignant potential involving adenomatous polyps; the non‐precancerous simple Mendelian disorders with hamartomatous polyps; and nonpolypous conditions. The diseases are discussed in terms of malignancy and malignant potential, histologic type, site distribution, and age at onset.
