Practical aspects of designing microstrip-slot couplers on an AI~03 ceramic substrate (e, = 9.8) are treated in supplementation of the theoretical analysis of the coupler presented in Part I. Comparison with implemented couplers yields rules for specification of the reference planes at the ends of the coupling section and for the appropriate choice of definition for the slot-line characteristic impedance. Design data of the standard versions of the microstrip transmission line and the slot line are shown to be adequate for the microstrip-slot coupler. Computed S-parmneter curves plotted for various 3-dB couplers yield information on realizable transmission characteristics.
Übersicht: Mit steigender Dichte, Komplexität und Geschwindigkeit von elektronischen Schaltkreisen ist die Begrenzung der Verarbcitungsgeschwindigkeit durch das Signalübcrsprcchcn auf Leitungen in integrierten Systemen offensichtlich. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird ein Verfahren zur Analyse von Mchrlagcn-Mchrlcitersystcmcn vorgestellt. Es wird dabei eine Zeitbcreichsanalysc durchgeführt. Das vorgestellte Modell für Mchrlagen-Mehrleitersystcme wurde in den Schaltkrcissimulator SPICE implementiert. Mit dem Strukturanalyseprogramm PLANAR können alle relevanten Parameter dieses Modells bei gegebener Geometrie berechnet werden.Abstract: As the density, complexity and speed of electronic circuits arc continuing to increase, it has become apparent that the interconnections can limit overall performance of an integrated system. Here we discuss the analysis of interconnections as long transmission lines. We show the time-domain response of coupled multiconductor and multilayer planar transmission lines. The introduced coupled multiconductor transmission line model for frequency-domain and time-domain analysis has been implemented in the circuit simulator SPICE. With the structure analysis program PLANAR all relevant model parameters can be computed for a given geometry.
