This research is based on fieldwork at a Five Mountain Festival held in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. This festival presents performing arts in the regions of Mount Merapi, Merbabu, Andong, Menoreh, and Mount Sumbing. This study intends to explain the concept of panutan in festival governance. Modeling is a significant factor in keeping the Five Mountain Festival alive and sustainable. This study suspects that panutan are one of the guardians of the existence of the Five Mountain Festival. Issues discussed are related to how the panutan concept works, as well as knowing how the implications resulting from the use of the panutan concept in festival governance systems. This study uses qualitative methods with analytical descriptive analysis. Research data were collected through literature studies, documentation studies, interviews, and field observations. The results showed that panutan as organic intellectuals not only created new forms and processes of festival governance but also resulted in the achievement of the advancement of village culture.
This article aims to discover the meaning of the expression ‘seneng lan kemringet’ at FLG (Festival Lima Gunung) in Magelang. The expression ‘seneng lan kemringet’ gives an opportunity to anybody who involved to reveal his existence and to speak about the essence of himself. By building a sense of familiarity, direct involvement in art activities, and dialogue with the farmers about circumstances in the field, it will be possible to reveal the meaning behind the expression ‘seneng lan kemringet'. The research results showed that within the expression 'seneng lan kemringet', there is vitality as a fundamental asset for the FLG sustainability. ‘Seneng lan kemringet’ can also be understood as an autonomy and self-actualization. Additionally, 'seneng lan kemringet' is a part of a game with the goal of displaying self-existence. Finally, ‘seneng lan kemringet’ is an embodiment of self-esteem. Keywords: ‘seneng lan kemringet’, vitality, and game ABSTRAKArtikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna ungkapan ‘seneng lan kemringet’ pada Festival Lima Gunung (FLG) di Magelang. Ungkapan ‘seneng lan kemringet’ memberi kesempatan bagi yang terlibat untuk mengungkapkan keberadaannya dan berbicara tentang hakikat dirinya. Dengan keakraban, keterlibatan langsung dalam aktivitas kesenian, dan berdialog dengan petani atas kenyataan-kenyataan di lapangan, akan dapat disingkap makna di balik ungkapan ‘seneng lan kemringet’ tersebut. Hasil dari penelitian kami menunjukkan bahwa di dalam ungkapan ‘seneng lan kemringet’ tersimpan daya hidup sebagai modal dasar keberlanjutan FLG. ‘Seneng lan kemringet’ juga dimaknai sebagai otonomi dan aktualisasidiri. Selain itu, ‘seneng lan kemringet’ adalah bagian dari permainan dengan tujuan untuk memperlihatkan eksistensi diri. Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck yang disutradarai Sunil Soraya merupakan adaptasi novel yang ditulis oleh Buya Hamka dengan judul yang sama. Kisah tersebut menceritakan mengenai perbedaan budaya yang menghalangi asmara antara Zainuddin (suku Bugis) dan Hayati (suku Minang). Untuk menggambarkan setting tempat dan waktu film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck merepresentasikannya melalui kostum sebagai ciri bahwa cerita terjadi pada masa budaya-budaya pada masyarakat masing-masing daerah masih kental, namun terpengaruh budaya indis. Kostum merupakan penanda yang sangat jelas pada masa tersebut yang dapat membedakan stratifikasi sosial antara bangsawan dengan masyarakat pribumi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dan sumber data yang diperoleh dari film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck. Data yang diambil dalam penelitian ini adalah kostum yang menunjukkan wujud identitas masing-masing budaya yang digambarkan.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan sebuah pertunjukan interdisiplin seni dengan judul “Sang Noto”. Proses penciptaan Sang Noto menggunakan metode penciptaan seni intermedia. Dalam karya ini media-media yang berbeda didialogkan dan dikolaborasikan sehingga menghasilkan satu bangunan karya seni. “Sang Noto” bertolak dari puisi-puisi karya Noto Soeroto, Wayang-liederen, yang kemudian ditafsir dan diekspresikan dalam bentuk karya seni intermedia. This article aims to describe the social and cultural event called Festival Lima Gunung(FLG). This festival is an art performance that is held by and for the agricultural communitieswho live on the slopes of the mountains Merapi, Merbabu, Andong, Sumbing, and Menoreh.The performance is inspired by art forms that are used for ritual purposes in the villages on thesefive mountains. The festival is managed independently without any support from elsewhere.Observation, direct involvement, and interviews were used to gather data related to this festival.The results showed that this event has a significant and varied influence on the development ofthe arts among the agricultural communities on these five mountains.
