The aim of this paper is to determine how visitors' experienced quality (VEQ) is affected by the transport mode used by tourists when visiting the city of San Cristobal de La Laguna (a World Heritage City since 1999). San Cristobal de La Laguna is located in Tenerife, one of the seven islands in the archipelago of the Canary Islands, which is recognized as an outstanding mass tourist destination in the European Union. Tenerife is a world-known destination whose main product is based on sun and sand; however, other diversified products, like cultural visits to La Laguna, have been gaining more importance in recent decades. Analysing the complex linkages between transport and VEQ is paramount to city policy makers, as a good understanding of the performance for different dimensions of the product is crucial. Fuzzy logic has been demonstrated to be an effective way to deal with the subjective information provided by questionnaire responses addressing satisfaction and VEQ information. In this paper, the authors apply triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs) to a survey of tourists who visited La Laguna in 2010. The results show that VEQ is highly affected by the transport mode used in the visit and, therefore, city policymakers may extract important implications for future visitors.
The overqualification in the touristic activity: the Spanish case ABSTRACT This research is about the relationships between education and employment in the touristic sector. It is known that the qualifications in the tourism sector have historically generated in the company, and the low percentage of university graduates is usual. But in the last twenty years it is also important that the Spanish university has grown dramatically. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the situation of graduates in tourism. The increase of university graduates in the tourism labour market is evident, but it remains to be known the specific positions they held. This will be done using data from the Spanish Labour Force Survey. This research aims to find out whether the institutional aspects affect the occupational structure of the sector and therefore its conformation as a secondary labour market.
The objective of this research is the vacation rental growth in tourist destinations; Tenerife Is‑ land is taking like a case study. Specifically, we analyzed the influence of the accommodation structure on the expansion process of this business model; and, on the other hand, the impact that the vacation rental may have on the rules of the game in the tourist field. It starts from a theoretical perspective that analyzes economic spaces as complex productive realities, made up of actors and capitals, which interact on the basis of behavioral guidelines based on norms and (un) equilibria of power. Methodologically, we proceed by means of a coherent, systematic and triangular approach from different data sources. As for the results, there is an increase in vacation rental, partially conditioned by the existing tourism model, and also an open and conflicting debate regarding the operating rules in the sector
