Aromatherapy has become prevalent in complementary and alternative medicine to treat ill conditions. The common substances utilized in this type of therapy are essential oils which contains odoriferous compounds. These substances can be directly applied or thru infusion in the closed environmental air. There are wide applications of aromatherapy from massage therapies up to its potential therapeutic utilizations. Across the globe in different countries, the custom of aromatherapy is gaining an acceptance in their respective health care systems. In the Philippines the use of aromatherapy is gaining its prominence to be an established complementary and alternative commodity. This article is focused to summarize the different published and available research information about aromatherapy conducted across the regions in the Philippines. This type of therapy is a prospective technique that could support customary health care procedures in treating diseases physiologically and psychologically in the Philippine health care setting.
The key goal of this mini review article is to provide enough data and info on the several clinical trials conducted in some number of countries in the Asia on the use of the drug Molnupiravir for Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has extended across the globe in the previous years. Vaccines and antiviral agents were being tested for their efficacies in order to prevent the occurrence of the disease. An antiviral agent, Molnupiravir which is ribonucleoside analog which is a prodrug that can be converted to its active form intracellularly. There were countries like USA and United Kingdom conducted the preliminary clinical trials for the efficacy of this drug. In the Asian region, countries like Japan, Israel, Philippines, Russia, South Korea and Taiwan participated in the clinical studies for Molnupiravir which is under Phase 3 clinical trial. Doses from 200 – 800 mg/kg were utilized in the studies. These certain doses are well tolerated and there were no severe adverse effects that were noted. Thus, Molnupiravir is a potential antiviral agent that can be utilized to treat and prevent COVID-19 infections and endeavored to be fully established.
The aim of this short review article is to deliver enough data and information on several studies on the experiences related to Community Pharmacy during COVID-19 pandemic in selected Southeast Asian countries. The spread of COVID-19 infections across countries challenges different health care professionals including Community Pharmacists to perform under difficult circumstances. During the pandemic, the key functions in public health and medication therapy of Community Pharmacists were highlighted. These are significant contributions that they can impart in an outbreak of infectious diseases. In the countries under Southeast Asian region such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore Thailand and Vietnam, Community Pharmacy practice became challenging but it is the first point of contact in the health care systems of the said countries. In the response to the pandemic, Community Pharmacists extended their duration of services not just in their respective health care establishments but as well as thru communication lines and ensuring continuity of medicine supply in societies. Thus, Community Pharmacy practice is very substantial in the primary healthcare system in times of global health crisis.
