Background One of the most prevalent problems in work places that is considered as an important risk factor for the health of the employee is job burnout (JB). JB could be harmful to employees, their families and society. Therefore, decreasing JB among individuals and determining factors associated with it is important to improve the working environment and prevent its negative outcomes. This study aims to elicit the conditions and factors that cause job burnout among nurses of the Razi Psychiatric Hospital, Iran. Methods This study was a descriptive correlational and cross-sectional survey which the demographic and occupational burnout variables of nurses were measured. The study was conducted from January to April 2016. Accordingly, with a type I error probability of 0.05 and a power of 0.80, the sample size was determined to be 100 nurses for each group (men and women). Then, 200 were selected in the Razi Psychiatric Hospital (of whom approx. 60% worked in a rotating shift schedule). The data were collected in two phases: the first step was created by the authors, including gathering demographic data with questionnaire such as gender, age, marital status, education level, years of professional experience, hours of overtime working per month, shift schedules, and their working hospitals and wards. The second step was the Maslach burnout inventory (MBI), human services survey (HSS) version, developed by Maslach and Jackson to assess the three dimensions of burnout. Descriptive statistics (frequency distribution) were used for integrating the demographic variables. Additionally, logistical regression was applied to realize the association between demographic characteristics with the job burnout in SPSS software V.19. Results Our findings indicated that age, hours of work per week, nursing skills, management experience and work experiences accounted for 30% of the variance of depersonalization. Formal employment was significantly associated with emotional exhaustion (p < 0.04). Also, sex was significantly associated with low personal accomplishment (p < 0.006). Conclusion The employment status and gender of nurses participating in the study has an effect on emotional exhaustion and personal achievement. Paying more attention to gender in the nursing profession and the change in their work status to a stable and formalized format can lead to a reduction in job burnout among nurses.
Introduction: Low marital adjustment of the wives of veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the challenges in the families that needs further help. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the group reality therapy on the coping of spouses of veterans suffering from PTSD in 2016. Methods: In this quasi experimental study, 34 spouses of veterans with PTSD were selected and assigned into two groups of experimental and control (n = 17, each group) by simple random sampling. The group reality therapy intervention was performed in the experimental group for eight sessions (each session 90 minutes). To collect data, a demographic questionnaire and the "Lock-Wallace Marital Adjustment Test" were used. The validity and reliability of the test was determined in the previous study. Data were analyzed by the SPSS 16 software. Results: The marital coping before the intervention in the experimental group was 64.76 ± 22.58 and in the control group was 64 ± 19.28; the difference was not significant (P = 0.91). However, after the marital adjustment intervention, the marital coping in the intervention group was 81.76 ± 22.59 and in the control group was 65.3 ± 21.71, which showed a significant difference (P = 0.039). Conclusions: The group reality therapy can increase the coping level of spouses of veterans with PTSD. Therefore, using this method is suggested to enhance the coping level of spouses of veterans.
Introduction: The Spouses of Veterans With Post-traumatic Stress Disorderbecause of frequent contact with her husband during their life have been greatly affected by emotional-spiritual problems, which often have a vague concept of love and empathy Objective: According to the theory of Glasser's Reality Therapy to improve marital relations, this study conducted to survey the effects of reality therapy on the empathy of post-traumatic stress disorder in Spouses of war veterans. Materials and Method: Using randomized sampling, thisexperimental study was conducted on 34 war veterans with post-traumatic stress disorderin Nyayesh hospital in Tehran in 2015 that were assigned to 2 groups ofexperimental (n=17) and control (n= 17). Experimental group receivedeight 90-120 minute sessionsof reality therapy based on Glasser's Theory. Standardized empathy questionnaire (Davis) questionnaire wasemployed to collect data before and after the intervention. Then, data were analyzed by paired and independent t tests. Results: The mean and standard deviation (Mean±SD) of empathy in reality therapy groupbefore the interventionwas 61.01±15.01 and in the control groupwas 53.52±13.1; independent t-test showed no significant difference (P=0.13). Butthe mean and standard deviation (Mean±SD) of empathy in reality therapy group was 73.47±9.2 after the intervention, and in the control group was 59.29 ±1.7. That shows a significant difference (P=0.003). Thus,empathy in the intervention group was more than that in the control group. Discussion and Conclusion: According tothe effectiveness of this approach on increasing the empathy of veterans' spouses, it is suggested that officials and health professionals, especially nurseimprove the quality of life in the families of veterans 'spouses by understanding the needs of veterans' spouses and familiesand holding workshops and training classes andand group therapy sessions based on reality therapy.
