Priapism is a rare presenting feature of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). It is an urological emergency which requires urgent treatment to prevent long term complications, in particular erectile dysfunction. Author report a case of 18 year old male presenting with persistent painful erection of penis for around 14 hours. The patient underwent immediate irrigation and decompression of priapism in emergency and was started on cytoreductive therapy. During hospitalization, peripheral blood smear and bone marrow aspiration confirmed the diagnosis of CML.
Systemic lupus erythematosus is a multisystem autoimmune disorder and its complications include cerebral vasculitis and vasculopathy which can be the first manifestation of SLE. Subarachnoid haemorrhage due to rapid aneurysm growth and rupture is a major neurosurgical emergency associated with significant morbidity and mortality. There is need for more rapid diagnosis and aggressive treatment of SLE patients with unruptured aneurysms. Authors report a case of 23 years old female, a newly diagnosed case of SLE complicated by rupture of cerebral aneurysms.
Diabetic mastopathy is used to describe the breast related complications of diabetes mellitus. It is a benign breast disease. Its accurate diagnosis in appropriate clinical and radiological setting shall avoid unnecessary surgical excision. Authors report a case of 25 years old female, a known case of Type 1 diabetes mellitus who presented with a rare finding of diabetic mastopathy.
Aim:The study was undertaken with the aim to establish the denite correlation between serum albumin levels and outcome of ischemic stroke.
Methodology: The present observational study was conducted on 100 acute ischemic stroke patients meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria. All
patients were investigated for hypoalbuminemia and their stroke severity was assessed by NIHSS score on day 1 and day 7. The relationship
between admission albumin levels, NIHSS values and outcome of those patients was ascertained.
Results: There was increased prevalence of hypoalbuminemia in AIS patients and there was signicant correlation between NIHSS score on day
1&7, mortality and hypoalbuminemia in AIS patients and there was signicant association between high NIHSS score and mortality in AIS
patients.
Conclusion: serum albumin is an independent predictor of functional outcome following an acute ischemic stroke and serum albumin level is
inversely correlated with severity of stroke at presentation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
