Mossbauer effect studies of taenite lamellae of an iron meteorite [Cape
Physica Scripta (Sweden] I?, 467-472 (1978).Mossbauer spectra have been obtained for 12 taenite lamellae from the iron meteorite Cape York. The spectra show that generally the lamellae contain three phases. A paramagnetic ?-phase, a martensitic &,-phase and an ordered phase (superstructure) of the composition FeNi and with the structure L10. This superstructure has not previously been detected in meteorites. The ordered phase is concentrated in the outer layers of the lamellae. The outermost layer (1 -2 pm) is practically pure superstructure. Mossbauer experiments show that the superstructure breaks down in about 10 hours at a temperature of 7 3 2 3 . The formation of the ordered structure explains several general features of iron meteorites.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
