Our students experience difficulties in working on non-routine mathematical problems. They cannot see the general through special things or instead see things that are special through common things when dealing with mathematical concepts and examples. They cannot see the essential features of the way or recognize it when presented in various forms. We needed to improved their learning motivation and thinking creativity through the appropriate learning form. For that purpose, the action research was carried out by applying the snowball throwing type of cooperative learning in two cycles by involving as many as 70 participants in our calculus course. We implemented the teaching techniques for finding a diffractive solution in period 1 and the methods of solving differential equations in period 2. The learning implementation of period two was the improvisation of the cycle one’ scenario by adding the learning resources, the Internet. The increase in learning motivation and thinking creativity had been able to meet the predetermined targets and concluded that the snowball throwing type of cooperative learning used in calculus lectures is useful.
Berdasarkan Hasil analisis siklus I dari nilai Test Hasil Belajar I diperoleh nilai rata-ratanya 55,42. This study aims to determine the improvement of mathematics learning outcomes of students by using PBL (Problem Based Learning) model on the material of Two Variable Linear Equation System in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Rantau Selatan. This type of research is a classroom action research. Subjects in this study were students of class VIII. This study is a classroom action research conducted in 2 cycles which each cycle is held in 2 meetings. Subjects in this study were students of class VIII-2 which amounted to 35 people. Based on the results of the analysis of the cycle I of the value of Test Results I obtained an average score of 55.42. A total of 10 students (28,57%) complete in learning while 25 students (71,42%) not complete. And the result of analysis of cycle II from test result of result of learning II average value 72,28. A total of 31 students (88,57%) complete in learning while 4 students (11,42%) not complete in learning. Student learning completeness in class and individual reach 88,57% which get value of 65 and other student or 11,42% get value <65, then this learning is said to be complete. The level of mastery of students from the test of learning II reaches a high criterion, then this learning is said to have been achieved. Implementation of learning based on observations for teachers in cycle I of 2.23 increased in cycle II to 3.02. Based on the results of this study can be concluded that PBL model can improve student learning outcomes on two-variable linear system material in class VIII-2 SMP.Keywords: PBL, Mathematics Learning Outcomes, SPLDV
Purpose: To examine thoroughly 1) The effect of Prior Knowledge, Emotional Intelligence and Motivation on Mathematical Communication, 2) The effect Prior Knowledge and Motivation concomitantly on Mathematical Communication, 3) The effect of Emotional Intelligence and Motivation simultaneously on Mathematical Communication, 4) The effect of Prior Knowledge, Emotional Intelligence and Motivation at the same time on Mathematical Communication. Methodology: This observation rendered as quantitative with correlational-designed observation. The Applied technical data analysis was descriptive statistic, regressive analysis and coefficient multi-correlation with SPSS. Findings: The findings of this study were to unfold: 1) Positive and significant effect of Prior Knowledge on Mathematical Communication, was the highest effect. 2) Positive and significant effect of Motivation on Mathematical Communication is the lowest effect. 3) Positive and significant effect of Prior Knowledge and Motivation concomitantly was higher effect than Emotional Intelligence and Motivation on Mathematical Communication. 4) Positive and Significant effects of Prior Knowledge, Emotional Intelligence, and Motivation simultaneously effected on Mathematical Communication. Significance: In virtue of the findings result, herewith the researcher proposed a recommendation to the teachers so that always being paying attention upon the three independent variables in time of ongoing learning mathematics because of these three variables when they are maximized at the same time will reinforce Mathematical Communication maximally. To the next researcher may do research concerning motivational consequence to become the least contributor to Mathematical Communication as had been retained in this observation.
