The pharmacological potential of bioactive compounds extracted from mushrooms has been studied to a reasonable level. In the same vein, the bioactivity of nanoparticles has also been investigated and reported to be of potential pharmacological benefit. No doubt, there is a reasonable amount of claims regarding the vast activity of the mushroom extracts and nanoparticles on the tested cell lines and microorganisms. In this paper, a review of the recent application of bioactive compounds extracted from two edible mushrooms (Coprinus comatus and Lactarius deliciosus), as well as some of the recently reported studies on some nanoparticles of pharmacological potentials, was carried out. In order to check for synergy in the bioactivity of the mushroom extracts when co-administered with nanoparticles, an investigation on the synergistic application of the materials through the encapsulation of the bioactive extracts from the mushroom onto the nanoparticle was proposed. The supposed synergy in the activity of the extract-nanoparticle complex could hold the key to improved activity of nutraceuticals against resistant microorganisms and tumor cells.
Nutrition facts on food labels contain complete information about nutrients (fats, proteins, cholesterol, salt, sugar and vitamins) and calorie content of packaged food items. Objective: To determine the awareness about nutrition facts on food labels and their influence on food selection among consumers. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study and was done by using self-designed questionnaire, among 206 individuals of age group between 18 to 65 years, which were selected from different grocery stores and nearby area, after getting their consent. Results: Study findings revealed that around 53% of selected respondents sometimes read nutrition facts on food labels, only 13.1% consumers always read nutrition facts, 14.5% of them never read food labels and only 39% changed their purchasing decision after reading food labels. Results also showed that 48.1% of consumers found nutrition facts helpful and reliable and 60% respondents felt confident an made better choices after reading food labels. Conclusions: The percentage of consumers using food labels is low which means that unhealthy eating is prevailing, so this study can be used as a reference to develop policies regarding awareness about use of nutrition facts on food labels, promoting healthy eating habits in the country.
Aloe vera is part and parcel of the Liliaceae family. This is one of 250 Aloe Barbadensis species, scientifically known as Aloe Vera. Acemannane, one of the most bioactive polysaccharides of Aloe Vera, has effects of immunity modulation, anti-cancer, anti-oxidation, bone repair, neuroprotection and promotion of intestinal health. The mucilaginous gel in the pulp of aloe vera formed by the parenchymal cells has been used for a variety of curative applications since ancient times. Aloe vera is a nutraceutical product used mostly for decades. It is available in a range of health drinks and wellness beverages, in capsules/tablets and in gels & creams externally. This article includes the bioactive components, extraction and processing of aloe vera and the prospects of tissue engineering. This article highlights important uses as a nutraceutical, medicinal, and therapeutic food potential of A. vera constituents. Aloe vera nutraceutical gel scaffolds, such as acemannan, promote biomedical biomedical and polymeric tissue management. The presence of over 200 phytochemicals was revealed by Aloe vera gel. Aloe vera gel from its leaves is extracted and the stabilisation and preparation of the final products requires adequate processing techniques.
Oral lichen planus is an inflammatory disorder that affects the mouth. Oral mucosa primarily affects women in their forties and fifties. OLP is a localised autoimmune disorder caused by T-cell malfunction, according to previous research. The tongue, buccal mucosa, and gingiva are the most prevalent sites for OLP. The distribution of oral lesions is always symmetrical and bilateral. Oral leukoplakia and oral erythro leukoplakia might be mistaken for plaque-like and atrophic/erosive OLP, respectively. Because OLP is an immunologically mediated condition, corticosteroids are the most effective treatment. Herbal medicine, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities, appears to be a viable alternative therapy. As a result, the goal of this research was to describe the efficacy of different OLP treatments.
Depression is a serious medical illness and impacted on everything that a person feels or perceive which causes persistent feeling of sadness, loneliness, anger, anxiety and depressive disorders. There is a close association exist between depression and over screening of smartphones, computer screens or various electric appliances thus increasing the risk of depressive disorders or negatively impacted psychological well-being. The incidence of depressive disorder was seen more frequently in females than in males due to increased screening time or social networking. This study aims to determine the link of screen time and depression or anxiety in the general population. To find out the association that whether increased screening time is associated with depressive symptoms in general population or not. Cross sectional study design was selected for study and 50 individuals was selected. Convenience sampling technique was used to collect samples. Their demographic information, screen time, anxiety and depression were assessed through pre-planned questionnaire. Data wasrecorded and analyzed through SPSS version 23. The results shown that the 70.37% female suffered from depression due to increased screen time and 29.63% male suffered. Increased monitoring time leads to an increased risk of depression and anxiety, though causality cannot be determined.
