Lucie Leboutet and Michel Colardelle with Evelyne Charles and Bernard Dangreaux, Dendrochronological study of the medieval underwater building at Colletière, Charavines (Isère ) : archaeological interpretations. A group of 37 samples of oak found in the building 11 of Colletière at Charavines (Isère) have improved our knowledge of life in this medieval village. These results were obtained through the particular care taken in obtaining these samples and the excellent preservation of the wood samples some of which even include the sapwood and the bark. Two years of demolition, followed by two years of building or restoration have been established at an interval of fifteen years. The dating of each of the stales has made it possible to expose the initial plan of the building and the different stages of the restoration. The comparison of the wood with that coming from the building 1 (study printed in Archéologie Médiévale, X, 1980) adjoining building 11 enables the synchronous dating of the work, which confirms the existence of a communal organisation in the village, as already noted. Lastly, the dendrochronological study reveals that the total period of occupation did not exceed thirty years within the period lasting from 980 to 1050.
