In a scenario of economic and political instability, many companies have being affected by a sense of uncertainty, both small and large companies. In this context, Logistics seeks, among other things, to reduce costs, improve processes and align the supply chain with company strategies. The purchasing sector is increasingly seen as a strategic agent in organizations, not only contributing to cost reduction, but also gaining in terms of productivity, economy and quality. This study aims to analyze and describe the purchasing procedures of a small food company located in the State of São Paulo, and compare it with the literature to see whether there is a matching or a gap between them. The procedure adopted by the study is the case study, based on three pillars: interviews, non-participant observations and documental analysis. The results showed that the company adopts many procedures described in the literature in its purchasing activities, and, with that, it has been performing strategically the purchasing activity and keeping itself competitive within the market; as well as currently there is not a gap between literature and practice.
This research aimed to find, gather, and analyze what has been published over the last decade about production management in the context of dental service provision. The study follows a systematic literature review. Searches were conducted in Web of Science™ database with a period constraint of eleven years (2008-2018). A conceptual framework for crossing both disciplines was elaborated to support data analysis. The literature review identified 17 peer-reviewed articles that have addressed the topic. Therefore, little scientific work has been produced in this interdisciplinary field. The findings suggest that patient treatment and dentist’s working time are what demand time the most and influence productivity the most. Productivity is commonly measured per patient seen or treatment delivered. However, there is no consensus among scholars and academics on what type of output measurement is better. In addition, a couple of different types of dental establishments have been identified, and among them, dental centers, dental hospitals, and university dental centers lack studies applying production management tools. The review brings an overview of the intersection of the disciplines consisted of 17 peer-reviewed articles and provides directions for future studies. Practitioners may benefit from information such as the current main ways of measuring productivity. The review shows a picture of the current situation in such an interdisciplinary topic that may contribute to the understanding of it by providing a structured overview that can be useful for academics and practitioners.

This research aims to map the processes existing in a dental clinic. For such, field research procedures were adopted, which were performed at a union dental clinic located in São Paulo-SP city. The data collect was made through non-participant observation and focused (semi-structured) interview. The processes of the clinic were modeled with the aid of MS-Visio Professional 2013 software, in order to clarify the usefulness and participation of each component of the process. The flowcharts built in the research were validated with the technical coordinator of the clinic, who corrected their inconsistencies with the reality in the clinic. After that, the flowcharts were validated with an expert in management. The results make possible to understand the usefulness of each process and identify both the hierarchy of the processes and the key processes; and provide a basis for decision-making. Considering the business model of the clinic, the analysis of the results pointed out an opportunity of increasing the number of patients seen at the clinic. Process mapping provides a better understanding of the routines of the clinic as well as of their steps, and it may help managers to determine their processes and focus on them. So, it understands here that process management is applicable in dental clinics starting from process mapping.
