The aim of this study was to compare the sleep quality, depression, anxiety, and autonomic function of a group of kidney-transplanted recipients who joined a combined exercise program (KTR) or remained sedentary (KTR). A total of 20 kidney-transplanted recipients, split into two groups (10 KTR and 10 KTR), joined the study. Heart rate variability, cardiorespiratory capacity, depression, and sleep questionnaires were evaluated. KTR presented lower Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and greater entropy, and increased parasympathetic and decreased sympathetic modulation than KTR. Anxiety level was minimal and depression was absent in both groups. KTR group presented better sleep quality and better autonomic modulation than KTR.
Background: Teamwork is central component of any software development organization. Therefore, the assessment of teamwork quality is important for team management in practice. TWQ (Teamwork Quality) is a measure of the quality of intra-team interactions developed specifically for software development teams. Aims: To perform a differentiated replication of previous studies on TWQ to expand the contexts in which TWQ has been applied, to refine the measurement instrument, increasing its reliability and validity, and to identify possibilities for future research on software teams. Method: We performed a crosssectional survey collecting data from all 18 teams in one single software organization and from all members of each team, totaling 123 participants. Results: First, we refined the measurement instrument, achieving a more reliable and parsimonious instrument. Second, our results confirmed findings from previous studies when individual level data was used, but almost no confirmation was found when data was aggregated at team level. Conclusions: Our results partially supported previous studies but raised questions about the validity of the aggregation of individual data to team level measures of the studied constructs. CCS CONCEPTS • Software and its engineering • Software creation and management • Collaboration in software development • Software teams
Brazil is an emerging economy with many IT initiatives from public and private sectors. To evaluate the progress of such initiatives, we study the geographical distribution of software developers in Brazil, in particular which of the Brazilian states succeed the most in attracting and nurturing them. We compare the prestige of developers with socio-economic data and find that (i) prestigious developers tend to be located in the most economically developed regions of Brazil, (ii) they are likely to follow others in the same state they are located in, (iii) they are likely to follow other prestigious developers, and (iv) they tend to follow more people. We discuss the implications of those findings for the development of the Brazilian software industry.
