The present study aims to compare experimentally direct and audio-visual method in terms of their effectiveness in students listening comprehension. Another purpose of the study is to help the teachers to find out the most effective way of teaching listening in the classroom. This study was conducted in MTS Al-Hamid, and 46 students of two classes were selected as the sample participants. In choosing the sample, the writer used a cluster random sampling technique. The subjects were assigned as experimental and control groups. This research used post-test only toward the experimental and control group. Data were gathered through the listening test in both the control and experimental group. While the experimental group learned English by implementing the audiovisual method, the control group was instructed by the audiovisual method. In the end, the results were statistically analyzed. Based on the result, the use of audio-visual method had a positive effect on the enhancement of students listening comprehension.
One of the learning models that can be implemented in increasing the students ability in English language is using Problem Based Learning (PBL). Problem Based Learning is a learning model that focuses on giving the solution for students in learning process. PBL provides the chance for students to find their problem and also creating the alternative solution to deal with their problems in English language learning. The aims of this study, by using PBL can increase the students’ ability in mastering English language. The participant of this study chosen from primary school teacher education department (PGSD) faculty of educational sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta. There several consideration in choosing the department as the object of this study. First, the student of this department lack of interest in joining the English subject, the learning process becomes ineffective. Second, as the future candidate of teacher for elementary school students, they need to concern with the ability of English language. Third, the average ability of students in mastering English is weak. The method used for this study based on qualitative/interpretive paradigm. This method concern on viewing the focus and problems of this study in a comprehensive way. The finding, based on the result of the study it can be shown that the students ability in English language increased as the researcher targeted from the beginning. And the learning process becomes more active after the use of Problem Based Learning. So, it can be concluded that the use of Problem Based Learning (PBL) can increase the students’ ability in mastering English Language.
Being a major part of internationalizing higher education, teaching English taps particular general cognitive abilities. It is mainly regarding listening that is hypothesized to have a higher influence on acquisition of foreign language. The aim of this study was to identify the common listening challenges experienced by Indonesian EFL learners. This research was practical research using descriptive methods of quantitative research. Subject of the study were subsequently randomly chosen, in which EFL learners at even semesters become the representative. In collecting data, the researchers used a self-structured questionnaire that refers to three primary categories: (1) the listener, (2) the passage, and (3), the physical setting. The data was then statistically evaluated by referring to Likert type scales, to discover useful information. After all, the finding showed that distortions, lexis recognition, phonological awareness, complexity of the passage and the speech rate highlighted a high degree response of common listening challenges. The significance of the study expected to contribute learners with a better understanding and propose new ideas for acceptable teaching listening.
The objective of the study is to find out the effect of VOA Learning English YouTube Channel on students’ simple past tense. This study was conducted at 8th grade students of SMP Pustek Serpong in academic year 2017/2018. The researcher used quantitative analysis with a quasi-experimental design. As the sample, the researcher uses one class with total number of 37 students. By using t-test, the finding showed that tcalculation (7.89) was higher than ttable (2.026) at a significant level of 5%. It indicates that VOA Learning English YouTube Channel gives the positive significant result in improving students’ simple past tense.
This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using Canva application media to enhance students’ writing skills. This research was conducted in July-August at Mts Al-Islamiyah, Ciledug. Researchers used a quantitative method which is pre-experimental research design by applying pre-test and post-test. Writing tests were employed in collecting students’ achievement as instruments of this study. Researchers used one class in class IX-1 MTs Al-Islamiyah Ciledug as research samples. Determining samples of this study used the random sampling technique. To analyze the research data, researcher applied t-test. Based on the research analysis, the mean score of students’ writing test on the post-test was 70.83, and the pre-test was 64.73. The results also showed that the T-cal value (9,585) was higher than the Ttable (2.021), at the 5% significance level. If the result t-test was higher than t-table. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and (H0) was rejected. Based on the results of the t-test calculation, this current study can be concluded that the Canva Application is an effective media to facilitate students to improve their writing performance. For further studies, English teachers can imitate the basic theory of this study as consideration to teach writing skills.
