<span>The purpose of this paper is to present the qualitative findings relating to fourteen preservice teachers' development and translation of their technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK) into their classroom practices throughout the first year of their teacher preparation program. It was found that all fourteen participants demonstrated a gain in both technological and pedagogical knowledge, and registered positive changes both in their pedagogical beliefs and their beliefs in using information and communication technology (ICT) to engage their students in active meaning making after an ICT course and an intervention workshop on reflection. There was, however, great variation in the ways that they used ICT in their first field placements: from using ICT as a presentation tool to complement or support their teaching, to engaging their students in using ICT as a cognitive tool to extend their students' learning and knowledge construction. This variation was largely related to whether the participants could synergise their constructivist-oriented beliefs, technological knowledge and pedagogical knowledge. It seems that only the preservice teachers who demonstrated student-centric pedagogies and reflected on student learning showed more advanced development of TPK. Recommendations for engaging preservice teachers in reflection with a focus on student learning are discussed.</span>
As a fascinating two-dimensional nanomaterial, graphene is attractive for electrocatalytical application in direct methanol fuel cells due to its unique structure and outstanding physical properties. Graphene and its derivatives have been widely used as a support material to improve electrocatalytical activity of catalyst particles for methanol and ethanol oxidations. In this review, discussion is focused on the graphene supported monometallic and bimetallic nanocrystals hybrid materials for electrocatalysts. Additionally, the nitrogen-doped graphene utilized for promising support material in electrocatalysts was also mentioned. We believe that the article will be useful to researchers interested in graphene-based catalyst and related materials for direct methanol fuel cells and provide the present status of the subject.
Direct ethanol fuel cells are considered a promising power source for future portable electronic and automotive applications. This article reviewed the synthetic methods commonly used to prepare Pd-based catalysts for the ethanol electrooxidation in alkaline media. The progress in the mechanism studies of ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) on Pd electrode in alkaline medium by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical in situ FTIR spectroscopy was also reviewed. The recent studies revealed that the EOR is fairly complicated, and it is difficult in CC bond cleavage for the complete oxidation of ethanol to CO2, and ethanol is selectively oxidized to acetate on Pd-based catalysts in alkaline media. Overall, what is most important is to explore new Pd-based alloy catalysts with high ability to break the CC bond to promote complete oxidation of ethanol as well as increase the efficiency of DEFCs.
Environmental impact is more and more being paid attention to in construction engineering. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is an effective assessment tool; however, the application of LCA in construction engineering is still in its infancy, a series of issues on theoretical approaches and practical applications still exist. In this paper, the existing work of the application of LCA in construction engineering has been reviewed from two aspects of theoretical framework and application method, and then the existing problems were analyzed and some perspectives were put forward.
