This paper discusses the processing, modelling and macrostructure management of centrifugally cast particle reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs). Centrifugal casting is a widely applied method for production of graded MMCs. A three-dimensional comprehensive mathematical model coupling particle movement and thermal conduction in the casting/mould system is developed. A formula for pressure in liquid metal during the centrifuge process is derived. The influence of Coriolis force on particle movement is discussed in detail.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
