Science, Technology and Innovation Policies in Mexico: Analysis and Perspectives Abstract An analysis of the science, technology and innovation (STI) policy, implemented in Mexico as of 2019 by the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT), is presented and its background is reviewed. The epistemic, ethical-political and technical dimensions of the current policy are addressed by resorting to public documents. It was found that the current policy has theoretical consistency and a good axiological support; its main weakness lies in a structural flaw that affects the design of the strategy and the implementation of effective actions to meet the proposed objectives. It is concluded that a set of articulated and convergent policies is required to complement the CONACYT policy, recognizing the structural limitations of this organization and the need to take advantage of the experience of the autonomous universities, while seeking programs and actions to renew the research staff and infrastructure for STI.
