A general approximate method for the optimal design of perfectly plastic inhomogeneous structures exposed to dynamic pressure is presented. The solution is based on the kinematical approach and on simple rigid-plastic idealization and leads to mathematical programming. The application of the method is illustrated by the optimal design of thick-walled concrete tubes reinforced on their exterior surface by steel wires. The solution corresponds to the minimum cost of the materials used in the tube on the condition that the permanent radial displacements do not exceed their allowable. values.

The aim of this paper is to introduce a new possibility for learning Analytical Mechanics via internet. This subject belongs to the field of engineering, the theoretical parts of lecture materials are available online in PDF format and have special links to switch on the interactive examples on the worksheets of the Computer Package Mathcad
This paper shows how to use the features of the Computer Package Mathcad for creative teaching of students in engineering mechanics by using its interactive worksheets and visualization the results of computations. As examples of visualization of the problems of engineering mechanics the simulations of motion of virtual four bar linkage, material point on the elliptical trajectory and large oscillations of a virtual double pendulum are considered.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
