For Muslims around the world, circumcision a common tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. If their child is not circumcised, Muslim parents feel guilty for not fulfilling their religious duties. The Muslim practice of circumcision follows the tradition of the Prophet Abraham, not the prophet Muhammad. Unlike the Quran, the performance of circumcision is instructed by the Bible, but there are both some Christians who do it and some who do not. They disagree about the law surrounding circumcision described in the Bible. The messengers mentioned in the Bible also have different views about it, some believing it is mandatory and others not. For this reason, some Christians perform circumcision because of their awareness of its connection to bodily health and others to obey the teachings of Jesus; meanwhile, some do not carry out the messengers' orders because of their different interpretations of them.
This paper concerns the issue of respect for one's parents in the context of Islamic and Confucian teachings. It is a comparative study between the teachings of these two traditions about this topic. In Islam, the concept of respect for one's parents is derived from the Quran and the ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad [S.A.W]. In Confucianism, the basis of the notion of respect for one's parents is taken from the Analects [Lunyu]. The Quran emphasizes the importance of honoring one's parents, while the ahadith of the Prophet Muhammad stress the importance of respecting one's mother to a greater degree than one's father. The message of the Lunyu resembles that of the Quran in focusing on respect for both parents and not only for one's mother. Confucianism is one of the official religions in Indonesia in addition to the other five [Islam, Catholicism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism].

Sam Poo Kong Temple is a place where Tridharma adherents (Taoists, Confucians and Buddhists) are believed to have met with Cheng Ho (a Chinese Muslim from China) who arrived on the Indonesian archipelago, especially Semarang, in the fifteenth century. The temple is not only a place of worship for Tridharma adherents, but also frequently visited by Muslims who perform rituals in which they plead for something to Sam Poo Kong manifested in the form of a statue in the temple. This paper explains the practices and traditions carried out by some Muslims in Java, especially in Sam Poo Kong Temple in Semarang in Central Java, which aim to solve the personal problems they face each day. Some Javanese Muslims strongly believe that the Sam Poo Kong god provide help to anyone who needs it. The aid of Sam Poo Kong is sought through a ceremony. Herein lies the uniqueness of Indonesia as a pluralistic, majority-Muslim country where people respect each other's differences to maintain social harmony.
