The reactions of 3 * CI atoms, produced in a high flux nuclear reactor have been investigated in binary mixtures of CCI, with CH3CHJCHO, CH3COOCJH5, CH3COOH and CH3CH2COOH and of CHCI3 with CH 3 COCH 3 . The organic yields fall sharply as the concentration of the chlorinated compounds decrease except in the case of CC1 4 /CH 3 COOH. As in previous works, the results show that the variations of organic yields can be related to the sample compositions if specific reactions cross sections are ascribed to each component.The problem that is investigated in this work, is whether the active group of an aliphatic non-chlorinated compound can influence the shape of the curves mentioned above and the organic yield (extrapolated) of the pure non-chlorinated component [1,2]; and also whether components with the same active group give similar curves despite some difference of behaviour ascribed to changes in molecular size [1,4]. Such similarity has been observed in alcohols [7]; it does not seem to exist between acetic and propionic acid and yet the shapes of the two curves can be explained in the same way.
