Device ratings limitations of two-level inverters restricted their applications and increased the demand for Multilevel inverters (MLI) for various high-power medium-voltage applications. However, it is not just the low device ratings that have enhanced the impact of MLI, but there are other key factors such as less good harmonic profile (filter size) and fault tolerance. Fault tolerance of MLI sustaining the various internal and external faults contributes to inverter reliability and plays a vital role to enhancing practical feasibility. However, achieving fault tolerant operation of MLI by control its switching operation rather than involving any external/auxiliary hardware is the most economical solution. Thus, considering the most popular modular redundant classical MLI i.e., Cascaded H-Bridge, this paper presents the simplest fault tolerant strategies practically used to reconfigure CHB from open circuit (oc) switch fault(s). The fault tolerant operation (FTO) is demonstrated considering three-phase eleven-level CHB in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
In this article a novel fuzzy control based Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) with Modular Multi Converter (MMC) fed Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is investigated. In this proposed approach MMC fed to the SRM motor with integration of Full Bridge (FB) converter. FB switching pattern operates with intelligent fuzzy control algorithm. The MMC inverter fed SRM drive HEV has been successfully simulated with MATLAB software package. The simulation results are proven that the harmonics are mitigated by employing proposed method. Performance characteristics of SRM motor such as, phase voltage, line voltage, speed, torque, rotor current, load torque is obtained, and these are compared with conventional methods i.e. current converter operated HEVs and solar (PV) integrated HEVs. It can be observed from the reported results that the proposed method is providing satisfactory output results.
This paper presents a modified controller by integrating dual unified power quality conditioners: iUPQC controller with its utilization in microgrid and power-quality utilizations. By applying this regulatory controller it extends the quality of power characteristics just like the UPQC controller it offers reactive power regulation both at load-side bus voltage and at grid-side bus voltage, which also compensates voltage swell & sag. At grid-side iUPQC controller will work as a STATCOM, by providing all the conventional UPQC applications both at the grid-side and load-side. Simulink consequences are providing to validate the latest predictability of the apparatus.
Index Terms: Dual topology: iUPQC, unified power quality conditioner (UPQC), power quality, micro grids, STATCOM-static synchronous compensator.
The recent changes in the environment made the researchers to ideate new alternatives in all walks of life to reduce the effect of global warming and pollution. Transportation is one of the key factors for the day-day increase in the depletion of ozone layer. The conventional vehicles increase the air pollution by the emission of harmful gases, governments and people are now moving towards electrical mobility which is green and safe alternative. The drastic demand of electric vehicles inspired the researchers to bring new concepts into market which are user friendly and sustainable in nature. This paper deals with the comparison of various motor and battery technologies used by current automobile Electric Vehicle industry. The paper also presents the modelling and simulation of an electric car and recommends the common people to shift from conventional to electric vehicles.
