Previous studies on insertion of lithium into rhombohedral forms of Fe2(S04)3 and Li3Fe2(P04)3 have determined the position of the Fe3/Fe2 redox couple to be at 3.6 and 2.8 eV, respectively, below the Fermi level of lithium. Lithium insertion into rhombohedral LiFe2(S04)2(P04) with NASICON framework exposes the Fe37Fe2 redox couple at 3.3-3.4 eV below the Fermi energy of lithium. Unlike Fe2(S04)3, the insertion of lithium into the structure of LiFe2(S04)2(P04) is accomplished as a single-phase solid solution, which makes it attractive as an electrode material for rechargeable lithium batteries.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
