Tungsten I 5700 Synthesis and Characterization of Metal Tungstates by Novel Solid-State Metathetic Approach. -Scheelite-type MWO 4 (M: Ca, Sr, Ba) and wolframite-type ZnWO4 are synthesized by exposing mixtures of MCl2 (M: Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn) and Na2WO4 to microwave radiation at a frequency of 3.45 GHz and a power of 1100 W for 10 min. For the synthesis of MnWO4 and NiWO4 the microwave prepared product is heated at 500°C for 6 h. The samples are characterized by powder XRD, SEM, XPS, and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The new solid state metathetic method is very simple, cost--effective, easy to scale up, exhibits high yields, and thus has advantages over already known methods of synthesis. -(PARHI, P.; KARTHIK, T.
