Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the correlation between social support, loneliness, sleep quality, and perceived health status among community-dwelling older adults. Methods: Older adults who lived in urban and rural local communities were taken into account. Among them, 396 people participated in this study. Path analysis was conducted in order to verify the study model and its verification. SPSS WIN 18.0 and AMOS17.0 were used for analysis of collected data. Results: The results showed that social support had a significant effect on perceived health status (β=.17, p= .003) and loneliness (β=-.56, p<.001), while loneliness had a significant effect on perceived health status (β =-.12, p=.045) and sleep quality (β=.20, p<.001). In addition, the results also indicated that sleep quality had a significant influence on perceived health status (β=-.16, p <.001).According to results derived from the model, Chi-square=.359, df=1 NC=.359, CFI=1.0, NFI=0.98, RMSEA=.000; thus, the model was shown to be significant. Conclusion: For maintenance of the health of the aged, social support, loneliness, and sleep quality should be secured; in order to realize this, an effort should be made toward health promotion while providing the aged with more social attention.
The purpose of this study was, therefore, to develop a combined exercise program to induce the participation of middle-aged women and to examine the effect of the participation in the proposed program on the health self-efficacy and exercise adherence. This study also intended to provide basic data on the development of effective exercise programs for the continuous health care of middle-aged women. The one group pre-post experimental design was applied and the subjects were 20 middle -aged women aged 35 to 65 who participated in a combined exercise program administered by the S District Public Health Center in Busan Metropolitan City. The proposed program was 12 weeks exercise program composed of aerobic exercise, low-middle intensity muscle-strength exercise, and flexibility and balance exercise. The effectiveness of the program was measured by using structured questionnaire on health self-efficacy and exercise adherence. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 23.0 program and the descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon sign rank were conducted. The participation in combined exercise program had positive effects on health self-efficacy and exercise adherence, which are expected to induce continuous participation in exercise and active engagement with health management.
This study aimed to identify factors related to the occurrence of family stress in middle aged men and to study the effects of retirement anxiety and self-efficacy on family stress. A total of 150 middle-aged men in Korea were recruited in the descriptive study of this study. The general characteristics and degree of family stress, retirement anxiety, and self-efficacy of middle-aged men were analyzed using frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, while Pearson's coefficient correlation was used to determine the relationship between family stress, retirement anxiety, and self-efficacy. The results showed that middle-aged males' family stress score was 25.26 (±11.97), which was lower than the average, while the retirement anxiety score was 49.57 (±12.06) and the self-efficacy score was 73.95 (±11.54), which were higher than the averages for those scores.. An analysis of the correlation between family stress and retirement anxiety showed that, as the level of family stress increased, the level of retirement anxiety also increased. This study suggests that middle-aged men need to be aware of the increase in family stress. In addition, this study provides basic data indicating the need for effective nursing intervention to relieve family stress and retirement anxiety among middle-aged men.
Findings indicate that using postural-stability patient transfer techniques can contribute to the prevention of musculoskeletal disease which care helpers suffer from due to physically demanding patient care in nursing homes.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of awareness regarding particulate matter, perceived respiratory symptoms, and physical activities on health promotion behavior in elementary school children. Methods: Data were collected from 639 4th~6th grades students from 8 elementary schools in Busan and analyzed using independent t-test and ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. Results: The average for awareness regarding particulate matter was 29.84±5.63, for perceived respiratory symptoms, 0.66±0.95, and for health promotion behavior, 7.85±1.76. The mean amount of time the students spent in sleeping or sitting on an easy chair and/or activity while sitting were 10.71±3.04 and 6.60±2.84 hours a day. Factors influencing health promotion behavior in elementary school children were being a girl (β=.09, p=.015), in 4th grade (β=-.09, p=.025), residence in Busanjingu (β=-.10, p=.005), residence in Bukgu (β=-.12, p=.001), more than 10 years residence period (β=-.09, p=.020) and awareness regarding particulate matter (β=.42, p<.001). The explanation power of these variables was 23% (F=22.21, p<.001). Conclusion: It is recommended that for health education programs, gender, grade, length of residence and area’s air pollution level be considered and education program including guideline for particulate matter be provided continuously to elementary students to increase their level of awareness regarding particulate matter and proper physical activity.
