Stress and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are often linked to each other. The symptoms of stress manifest in physical ways, often leading to a TMJ disorders and can cause jaw tension or pain. Physiotherapy treatment is very effective in relieving and managing temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJDs), even when the symptoms are long-standing and severe. Aim: To evaluate the effect of nursing psychological support and teaching physiotherapy guideline on improving pain level for patients with TMJDs. Research design: Pre/post-test research design was utilized on 50 adult patients with TMJDs. Setting: The study was conducted in the maxillofacial surgery outpatient clinic at Assiut University Hospital. Tools: Three tools were used, I) Structured questionnaire, II) psychological state assessment and III) universal pain assessment. Results: About half of the study group their age range between 18-29 years old, with mean of (29.12±9.82) and about three quarter were females. There were statistically significant differences for the study group as regard psychological state and universal pain assessment. Conclusion: It was concluded that nursing psychological support and teaching physiotherapy are an important factors in the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders. Recommendations: A written teaching guideline should be available for patients in simplified term and containing simple pictures.
Background: Hand skin problems are widespread problems among health care members especially nurses.Aims: to determine the prevalence and risk factors of hand skin problems among nurses who are working at surgical departments in Ministry of Health Hospitals. Design: Descriptive cross-sectional study. Setting: This study was carried out at three ministry health hospitals in Assiut government: Al-Eman, Al-Shamlaa and Ophthalmology Hospitals. Sample: A purposive sample of 200 nurses working in surgical and operating room departments at Assiut ministry of health hospitals. Tool: A structured self-administrator's questionnaire, included demographic characteristic of nurses, history about hand skin problems and risk factors for hand skin problems. Results: More than one third of nurses working from 40-45 hours weekly. More than one quarter of nurses were having hand skin problems and 11.5 % were complaining from hand skin problems less than one year ago. Majority of nurses had a satisfactory level of knowledge about risk factors of hand skin problems. Repeated hand washing is most common risk factors of hand skin problem. Conclusion and Recommendations: About aquarter of nurses have hand skin problems and some of them complained from hand skin problems less than one year ago. Efforts to improve skin condition must focus on improving products and identifying any interactive effects between hand care products and glove materials and brands.
AabstractBackground: Chronic bronchitis is defined as a productive cough that lasts for three months or more per year for at least two years. The aim of this study was to evaluate effect of designed nursing recommendations on knowledge for patients with chronic bronchitis. Methods: Research design: Quasi experimental (prepost) test research design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The study was conducted at internal medical unit of Al-Badary Central Hospital. Subjects: Sixty adult patients with chronic bronchitis, the age ranges between (18-65) years, both male and female. Tools: An interview questionnaire sheet for patients. Results: There was statistically significant difference between pre and post implementing of designed nursing recommendations in relation to signs and symptoms and patient's knowledge about chronic bronchitis in all items with p-value 0.001.Conclusion: Designed nursing recommendations had statistically significant effect on patient condition and knowledge Recommendation : Patient should be provided with sufficient information on chronic bronchitis and health improvement before discharge from the hospital.
Background: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to diagnose and treat problems in chest. This study aimed to assess the effect of educational nursing protocol on minimizing patients' complications after thoracoscopic surgery. Researsh design: Quasi experimental research design was used to conduct this study. The sample was consisted of a convenience sixty adult patients undergone thoracoscopic surgery. The following tools were utilized for data collection: An interview questionnaire sheet for patients, assessment sheet of patients' knowledge and practice, and assessment sheet for patients' complications. Results: There was highly statistical significance difference between study group patients pretest and posttest in total knowledge and practice after implementation of educational nursing protocol. There was no statistical significance difference between both groups as regard complications. Conclusion: There were improvements in total knowledge and practice after protocol implementation. Wound infection and pain were the only complications happened and with higher percentages in control group than study group. Recommendations: Educational nursing protocol should be given for patients in the form of video to be more understandable.
Background, Breast surgery typically can be divided into three general categories, reduction, augmentation, and reconstruction. A care bundle is a structured way of improving the process of care and patient outcomes. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of nursing care bundle on outcomes for women undergoing breast surgeries. Research design, one shot case research design was utilized to conduct data of this study. Samples, the study was conducted on a convenience sample of available patients (30), female adult patients undergoing breast surgery. Setting; the study was conducted at plastic surgical department in Assiut University Hospitals. Tools, data were collected through four tools; the structured interview questionnaire, Patient assessment sheet, Surgical site infection grading system, Nursing care bundle. Results, There were a statistical significant difference between total scores of knowledge level, practice pre and post-operative (after 4 weeks) after implementing nursing care bundle (P=0.001). Conclusion, there is a significant differences improvements throughout implementation of nursing care bundle on outcomes for women undergoing breast surgeries. Recommendations, the study recommended that, pamphlets and simple illustration booklet should be available for women undergoing breast surgeries with simple explain how to safely live after breast surgery.
