Early implantation and hearing and speech rehabilitation provide much wider opportunities to develop linguistic and communication skills for children with hearing impairment. The article presents own research, the aim of which was to determine the level of language competence of children with prelingual hearing deafness, which were implanted with a cochlear implant until the second year of life. The study involved a group of 169 children with prelingual hearing deafness. The tests used 6 Ling’s sounds, the MAIS scale, the MUSS scale and the TAPS test.
The article presents considerations for children's speech and communication disorders. Polish and foreign literature can be considered to present variety of terms and definitions, however not clear in meaning. It can be found creating difficulties not only in terms of diagnostic but as well as in therapeutic process. Article emphasizes important issues of speech disorder children in education process, care, special education forms complaint with law. Issues related to psycho-social speech disorder was also raised in this article.
The purpose of the article is to present important strategies used in early intervention for children with hearing impairments. With reference to the paradigm of family-focused intervention, the role of specialists is discussed - with emphasis on its autonomy - as well as their cooperation with the family. The most important recent scientific research on early intervention for children with hearing impairments is pointed to. The impact of technological changes on child language, social and cognitive development is taken into consideration.
Task-related educational sensitivity in students with hearing impairments
Task-related educational sensitivity forms the structural basis of the educational sensitivity model. It is a category that covers detailed information on the child's psychophysical development. It includes various tasks that the child performs during the educational process. The task performance level shows the child's educational sensitivity in different areas. Task-related educational sensitivity includes 35 areas of child functioning and is based on observable activities. Their level shows the student's resources, skills, abilities, knowledge and experience.
The study covered 74 children with severe and profound hearing impairments starting elementary school. It was conducted in integrated and special schools in central Poland in the first semester. It aimed to determine the level of task-related educational sensitivity in students with hearing impairments starting elementary school. Thanks to the study, it is possible to know which areas are developed to the largest and smallest extent, which makes it possible to appropriately orient rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions for students with hearing impairments.
The article treats on complexity of speech development, communication process of child with damaged hearing. Article emphasizes factors defining different language and communication competences. Hearing impairment leads to self-expression being delayed. Mentioned delays, could be quantitative (active and passive vocabulary, subordinate to the chronological age of the child) and qualitative (numerous, different disorders of articulation, semantic errors, problems with understanding simple commands).
