SUMMARY:Anomalies of the bronchial tree may cause recurrent acute pulmonary infection and persistent obstruction symptoms. The developmental anomalies of the bronchial tree were presented mostly as case reports with an accompanying anomaly. However in this study, these anomalies were detected in multidetector computerized tomography (MDCT) images which have no reported pathology. Thoracic MDCT images of 400 patients (0-74 years old, 224 male and 176 female) were evaluated. Four tracheal bronchus (1%) were detected. Three of them were displaced type, one of them was pig bronchus. And two accessory cardiac bronchus (0,5%) originated from medial wall of the intermediate bronchus were detected. According to our findings, incidence of tracheal bronchus and accessory cardiac bronchus seems to be higher in Turkish population.
Lipocalin-2 has an important role in tumor progression, invasion, and metastasis. However, its role in prostate cancer remains unclear. The objective of this study is to determine the expression level of lipocalin-2 in human prostate cancer tissues and to evaluate the relationship between its expression level and clinicopathologic parameters including response to docetaxel treatment, Gleason score, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). We retrospectively analyzed paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 33 metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients whose clinical outcomes had been tracked after docetaxel treatment. The expression status of lipocalin-2 was defined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) using the anti-lipocalin-2 antibody. Lipocalin-2 was highly expressed in 36% of the examined specimens. There was no significant correlation between high lipocalin-2 expression and docetaxel response ( p : 0.09 ). High lipocalin-2 expression was significantly associated with a higher Gleason score ( p = 0.027 ). Kaplan–Meier survival analysis failed to show a significant correlation between expression levels of lipocalin-2 and both OS and PFS although patients with high lipocalin-2 levels had a numerically shorter PFS and OS time compared to patients with low levels. Consequently, it is clear that further studies are needed to evaluate the predictive and prognostic role of lipocalin-2 in prostate cancer patients.
Purpose: The golden ratio is reached by the fractal model of the number sequence which is known as the “Fibonacci series” and has a convergent ratio of approximately 1.618 between 2 consecutive Fibonacci numbers. Golden ratio relationships have been shown in several plants in the nature and several organs and structures in the human body. The conchae, which form an important part of the nasal valve, have a special geometric significant in terms of providing turbulence to the laminar airflow that passes to the nasal cavity. Methods: This study made golden ratio calculations on 34 adults aged 20 to 45 years over computed tomography (CT) images. Totally, 34 volunteers (male, n = 18 and female, n = 16) with no nasal pathologies participated in the study. Using Adobe Photoshop, golden ratio calculations were made by applying the Fibonacci spiral on the images that best showed the conchae and meatuses on the CT images. Results: The intersection points of the spiral that was projected on the inferior and middle nasal concha were determined as S0, S1, S2, S3, and S4. The distances of S0-S1, S1-S2, S2-S3, and S3-S4 were measured. The concha measurements of the women showed significantly similar values to the golden ratio constant of ∼1.618 in the RS3/S4 and LS3/S4 measurements. Conclusion: We found that the S3/S4 region that captured the golden ratio in our study corresponds to the base part of the inferior nasal concha, and its place of spiraling in the nasal cavity is observed to have an important role in creating vortices.
It is necessary to have a comprehensive knowledge about renal vascular anatomy in order to be able to apply renal surgical procedures correctly. The renal artery is a pair to feed the right and left kidneys. Its variation is common. In this study, it was aimed to group the variations and to examine them clinically. Abdominal CT findings of 532 cases examined with MDCT device were included in the study. Variation was detected in 135 (25.3%) of 532 cases. Of these variations, 95 (17.8%) were early branching and 40 (7.5%) were extra renal artery variations. The presence of renal artery variation may cause complications in surgical procedures such as kidney transplantation. Knowing the variations before the intervention to be made in the region will be guiding.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
