The paper describes the use of didactic games based on "Bean Bag Genetics" for the teaching of the evolutionary theory in undergraduate classes from a Brazilian state university. These games are in line with teaching proposals based on active methodologies, in which the students make questions and test predictions through data generation and its findings. Results have shown good receptivity of the students to the games. Regarding the learning process, the "Bean Bag" games seem to have contributed to overcome problems related to mathematical aspects of population genetics, reformulation of preconceptions, and to put the abstract aspects of the evolutionary theory in a more concrete form. Thus, it was possible to conclude that these games can become an additional tool to the teaching of the evolutionary theory.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
