Introduction. Emotional burnout is a condition common among workers of “assisting” occupations. In workers of the main professions in the coal industry, the frequency of emotional burnout has not been studied enough, especially in terms of its relationship with mental health indices: the presence of sub-depression, negative affectivity, and social inhibition. The purpose of the survey was studying the prevalence of emotional burnout syndrome and its relationship with the development of sub-depression, negative affectivity and social inhibition in the coal industry workers with occupational diseases. Materials and methods. Two hundred forty seven miners with occupational diseases (dust lung pathology, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, vibration disease) were examined using questionnaires (DS14, by V.V. Boyko, and N.I. Vlakh). Results. 38.9% of the workers had emotional burnout syndrome. A reliable relationship between the emotional burnout syndrome and the development of sub-depression, negative affectivity and social inhibition was determined. Limitations. The survey is limited to a sample of 247 miners with occupational diseases examined using questionnaires (DS14, by V.V. Boyko, and N.I. Vlakh). Conclusion. Coal industry workers are subject to developing emotional burnout syndrome, the prevalence of which is 38.9%. The emotional burnout syndrome is interrelated with the development of sub-depression, negative affectivity and social inhibition, the incidence of which reaches a maximum in the exhaustion phase of burnout.
Introduction. The study of the problems of human stress resistance in various professions has shown that prolonged exposure to stress leads to such adverse consequences as a decrease in the overall mental stability of the body, the emergence of a sense of dissatisfaction with the results of their activities, the tendency to refuse to perform tasks in situations of increased demands, failures and defeats. Analysis of the factors that cause such symptoms in various activities has shown that there are a number of professions in which a person begins to experience a sense of internal emotional emptiness due to the need for constant contact with other people.The aim of the study is to study the subdepressive symptoms in accordance with the phases of emotional burnout.Materials and methods. The study involved 465 people, of whom 219 men and 246 women were representatives of various professional groups. The indicators of emotional burnout, including three phases-stages: “Tension”, “Resistance”, “Exhaustion” — each of which consists of 4 symptoms, are considered.Results. The correlation coefficient of the level of formation of symptoms of emotional burnout according to the method of V.V. Boyko with the level of severity of each of the components of emotional burnout according to the MBI method are calculated.Conclusions. It was found that people whose personal and professional lives are filled with meaning are only slightly or moderately susceptible to burnout syndrome. On the contrary, subjects with an existential vacuum showed, according to the MVI test, a high degree of severity of burnout syndrome.The authors declare no conflict of interests
Relevance. Emotional burnout is dangerous due to the presence of a wide range of neurotic and psychosomatic symptoms. The article discusses the features of the structure and formation of the emotional burnout syndrome as manifestations of personal value-semantic deformations. Burnout has been found to be negatively associated with solving existential problems. The study aims to explore the specifics of the emotional burnout syndrome as manifestations of personal value-semantic deformations in the representatives of "helping" professions. Materials and methods. The study involved 968 respondents employed in the field of "helping" professions. Of the entire sample, 465 people (consulted persons) made up the main research group, and 503 individuals were included into the control group. The main study methods were clinical and psychological and experimental-psychological. Results. Psychodiagnostics made it possible to clarify the types of emotional states and self-attitudes that characterized the specificity of burnout. Psychodiagnostic examination confirmed the presence in the subjects studied the elements of existential crisis associated with both professional situations and the personality traits of the "burned out" persons. Conclusions. Emotional burnout syndrome is a "payment" not for sympathy and love for people from the representatives of "helping" professions, but for their unfulfilled expectations, for the lack of sometimes visible result of work, for the loss of the activities meaning, for the devaluation of efforts by those around him.
