A araruta é uma hortaliça não convencional que produz rizomas com alto teor de amido, isenta de glúten e possui elevado valor de mercado, todavia informações técnicas sob o cultivo da cultura são escassas na literatura. Objetivou-se com esse trabalho avaliar a produtividade de rizoma, rendimento e características químicas da farinha e fécula de araruta, variedade ‘Comum’, em função de diferentes formas de cultivos. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2 x 2 x 2 (sendo avaliado as mudas produzidas por rizomas entre 30 - 59 e entre 60 - 100 g; adubação orgânica e convencional; fontes de recomendações de adubação A1 e A2). Foram avaliados o teor de umidade, cinzas, proteína e quantidade de amido puro para a farinha e fécula, além de extrato etéreo para fécula. As recomendações seguindo A1 se mostraram mais eficazes tanto para produção de farinha, quanto de fécula de araruta, resultando em maiores teores de amido puro e menores de contaminantes, sendo que, para a farinha a adubação química se destaca, enquanto para a fécula ocorre o contrário. Os diferentes tamanhos de propágulos, tipo de recomendação e adubação interferem na qualidade da farinha e da fécula de araruta.
The use of unconventional edible plants in human food has grown more widespread in recent years, driven mainly by gourmet dishes. Evidence of the food properties of these species is still scarce. Aiming to obtain more in-depth knowledge of dahlia plants, this study aimed to evaluate the nutritional, bioactive, and antinutritional properties of the edible parts of purple dahlia (tuberous root and flower) to elucidate their value and safety as foods. The percent composition, caloric value, pH, Total Soluble Solids (TSS), Total Titratable Acidity (TTA), ratio of TSS to TTA, anthocyanins, carotenoids, vitamin C, total phenolics, tannins, nitrates, and minerals of the roots and flowers were analyzed. The inulin content in the root and the color of the flower were also evaluated. The results were reported as mean and standard deviation, and exploratory factor analysis was performed. Both parts of the dahlia had constituents that contribute to a good diet at concentrations like those in conventional vegetables, whereas the antinutritional components were also compatible with those of commonly consumed foods, with acceptable dietary values. Thus, it is evident that purple dahlia flowers and roots have potential for use in human food and can be considered good options to improve and diversify a healthy diet.
Understanding the responses of seeds to the detriment of the interaction of external factors is one of the challenges of research, especially with little explored species such as Sonchus oleraceus L. Thus, the objective was to investigate the effect of the cultivation system, storage time and temperature on the physiological potential of seeds of Sonchus oleraceus L. Seeds were used of two cultivation systems (organic and conventional) in three storage times (0, 90 and 180 days) and submitted at two temperatures (20 and 30 ºC). For the evaluation of germination, the first count, germination percentage and germination speed index were determined, while root length and hypocotyl growth were determined for the evaluation of seedling growth. The first count was statistically higher than 180 days in both crops and temperatures. The seeds of conventional cultivation obtained higher germination percentage and germination speed index at 30 ºC. There was a reduction in root and hypocotyl growth at 180 days, especially at 20 °C. The cultivation environment influences the seed quality of Sonchus oleraceus L. during storage.
