Implemented in road transport enterprises (RTEs) on a large scale, telematics systems are dedicated both to the particular aspects of their operation and to the integrated fields of the total operational functioning of such entities. Hence, a research problem can be defined as the identification of their efficiency levels in the context of operational activities undertaken by RTEs (including more holistic effects, e.g., lowering fuel/energy consumption and negative environmental impacts). Current research studies refer to the efficiency of some particular modules, but there have not been any publications focused on describing the efficiency of telematics systems in a more integrated (holistic) way, due to the lack of a universal tool that could be applied to provide this type of measurement. In this paper, an attempt at filling the identified cognitive gap is presented through empirical research analysing the original matrix developed by the authors that refers to the efficiency rates of organisational activities undertaken by RTEs. The purpose of this paper is to present a tool that has been designed to provide a holistic evaluation of efficiency of telematics systems in RTE operational management. The results are presented in a form of an individual (ontogenetic) matrix of the analysed companies, for which a determinant was calculated with the use of Sarrus’ rule. Obtained in such a way, the set of values identified for the determinants of the subsequent ontogenetic matrices came as an arithmetic progression that characterised the scope and the level of the influence exerted by the implemented IT (information technology) systems on the organisational efficiency of operational activities undertaken by the analysed RTEs. We present a hypothesis stating that the originally developed matrix can be viewed as a reliable tool used for comparative analysis in the field of efficiency of telematics systems in RTEs, and this hypothesis was positively verified during the research. The obtained results prove the significant potential for the wide application of the discussed matrix, which can be used as a universal tool for the analysis and comparison of efficiency indicated by the integrated IT systems in the operational activities undertaken by RTEs.
The article aims at the presentation of a concept referring to the improvement of warehouse management in the X production plant. The authors suggest two solutions: using storage racks at the picking process site and warehouse automation. Ultimately, the authors of the article present their basic calculation of the costs, indicating the increase in efficiency after the implementation of the discussed improvements.
The article is aimed at the presentation referring to the use of green logistics elements during the construction of the offshore vessels in the following aspects: collection, removal and utilisation of any waste that is harmful for natural environment, elimination of the negative impact that such waste can have on natural environment and the search for the optimal solutions as regards these aspects.
The main practical problem in the Logistics Department at the company is overstaffing in the unit responsible for the flow of materials. Carried out by the authors of the article, some detailed research on the process analysis in the discussed company indicates that the main cause of such a situation is related to an increase in the amount of transported material and a lack of redesigning the material flow in spite of the increased levels of production and acquisition of new projects. At present, at the company the material is prepared and transported by eleven employees whose work is not standardised and impossible to control. Such a large number of people working at the same time at the warehouse and moving through the transport corridors seriously affects the level of safety in a negative way. Therefore, the authors of the publication have suggested three solutions which involve some logistic changes in the existing process in order to increase safety and to reduce the number of staff involved in the transport.
The aim of the article is to present a concept related to the improvement of the logistics process at the company, by the modernisation of the main railway siding of the terminal. The paper present the reasons for the decision that was once made in order to obtain the expected advantages after the modernisation. The comparison of the incurred expenses and the profits that might be gained in the future allows us to state that the decision about the modernisation was the right one. The decision about the modernisation also referred to a trend towards an increase in cargo handling operations, which could be observed at the company at that time. The decision about modernisation was made when the terminal operated using its full capacities of the railway siding. Therefore, the modernisation was necessary in order to meet expectations expressed by the current and potential customers who might appear in the future.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
