Transnational marriages of migrants in Western Europe tend to be seen as hampering integration. In response, policies have been tightened, despite little knowledge on transnational marriages and the effects of such measures. This paper investigates the role of individual preferences and contextual factors such as family reunification policies, group size and development levels of the regions of origin in partner choice of the children of Turkish and Moroccan immigrants. We draw on a novel dataset collected in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden. Our findings suggest that transnational marriages are partly associated with contextual factors such as a rural origin and family reunification policies. The analysis indicates higher rates of transnational marriages under open family reunification policies, providing tentative evidence of policy effects. On the individual level, the choice of a partner from the parents' origin country is associated with religiosity.

In several of the Mother of Apis texts, the operation is mentioned in direct connection with further building work, probably the installation of the ashlar lining of the walls, of which it seems only plausible that it immediately followed the excavation of the vaults.In this review I have merely wished to outline the contents of a memoir that deals with the not so very easy, but beautiful, Demotic of the Memphite area. I find every aspect of the volume extremely well done. everything is well presented and even the minutiae are made interesting by a commentary that places each detail in its proper context, whether this concerns the archaeology of the site or Demotic period culture in general. In particular, the connection with the Apis bulls' documentation has, I think, come out wonderfully. As a text publication, the memoir is exemplary: it contains 167 texts, all, even the smallest fragment, accounted for in all necessary detail, the transliterations trustworthy, the translations well considered, the commentary thorough. The volume is completed by full word indexes and by good plates printed on extra quality paper. In conclusion we can only bow our heads in admiration and thank the authors for presenting us with this monument that they have excavated, and which was built, furnished, and completed for the Mothers of Apis.
