This book is a sweeping survey of Indian education in British North America. Although it largely reads like a story of the leading English colonists who were involved in the education of Indians, the book has paid more attention than before to the Indian students and their contri butions. The author analyzes Indian schooling experiments in the context of the entire colonial development and demonstrates the tremendous diversity existing within the colonies. She also makes a conscientious effort to examine the native responses to colonial Indian schooling.
