The aim of this study is to get a general overview of the relevance of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) requirement for postgraduate studies in Mexico, since such requirement has been established as one of the main elements of National Quality Postgraduate Programs (PNPC) registered in the National Bureau of Science and Technology (CONACYT) catalog. There are 2,155 programs to be found in such catalog, where 130 of them are cataloged as programs of International Competency; are public university graduates ready to cope with the EFL requirement established in PNPC programs? This research project took a closer look into a group of Mexican university graduates´ EFL proficiency levels fulfilled as both: as a fulfillment bachelor’s degree requirement, and as an entry requirement to be accepted in a biological and agropecuary sciences masters’ degree program from the PCPN.

The subject of this contribution is the geolectal distribution of some morphosyntactic phenomena in the Eo-Navia strip, a linguistic boundary between the Galician-Portuguese and Astur-Leonese domains in the westernmost side of Asturias. Those phenomena concern the 3 rd person direct object clitic pronouns and their allomorphs, conditioned by the previous phonic environment: -r, -s, -n and diphthong. The data -obtained from the project ETLEN -are presented according to two options of classification and two of geolectal analysis. The two options of classification are: (1) according to the forms of the pronouns; (2) according to «existence» or «nonexistence» of pronominal variation. The two geolectal analyses are: dialectographic or «classic», with attention to the distribution of variation areas in 40 villages; and «horiometric», considering distribution of percentages of geotypological assignment (Galician-Portuguese vs. Astur-Leonese phenomena). The results show that the chosen phenomena of geolectal variation are also part of the well-known «isogloss bundle» marking the boundary between both domains. This paper focuses on analyzing the teaching-learning process that takes place in second level basic education in the community of Presidio de los Reyes in Nayarit, Mexico. The study aims at knowing if this links the ancestral knowledge of the Naayeri community (Cora) with the official academic curriculum of the Ministry of Public Education (MPE). The study sample were the teachers and the management staff of Pentecatl Elementary located in a community in Cora baja, in the municipality of Ruiz in Nayarit, Mexico. The methodology of this study was transversal for one year and then qualitative. The instruments used in this study was a semi-structured interview about the knowledge of the basic education profile, as well as the analysis of the teaching sequences of the teachers. The results of the research show how teachers promote traditional knowledge, culture, and the learning of the Cora language as a national language and not as a mother tongue. They design materials and perform activities that relates and links traditional knowledge with academics. They also establish approaches with the traditional authorities, and bridges are being constructed that intertwine the ancestral knowledge with the academic contents proposed by the MPE.
