Introduction: Obesity is a global public health problem with negative impact on health. Therefore, effective treatments options are needed. Objective: to evaluate the responses of a supervised functional training program on physical fitness and functional capacity of women with obesity. Methods: a prospective and controlled study was conducted with twenty-four women, BMI >30 and <55 kg/m² and age between 20 and 59 years. The evaluation consisted of anthropometric measurements and physical fitness tests that assessed the cardiorespiratory fitness and functional capacity [6-minute step test (ST6min)], the indirect strength of the lower limbs [sit-to-stand test (STS)] and the flexibility [sit and reach test (SR)]. After the baseline evaluations, the volunteers were allocated in two groups: individualized training group (ITG) (n=13), which consisted of aerobic and strength training, for three months, three times a week, 60 minutes per session; and the control group (CG) (n=11) which did not participate in any regular physical exercise program during the same period. At the third month the two groups were reassessed. Results: it was observed significative reductions in waist circumference, hip and neck measurements; all with p<0.01; and increase in VO2max, in the number of movements of STS and in distance reached in the SR test, all with p<0.01 for the ITG. The ITG showed superiority over CG for all exercise test variables studied. Conclusion: The training program improved the distribution of body fat, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, flexibility and functional capacity. These are indicatives that the strategy is feasible for women with obesity.
| The objective was to evaluate the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in the respiratory rate (RR), tidal volume (TV) and minute volume (MV) in patients after bariatric surgery. Ten patients with mean age 29.8±8 years, classified as morbidly obese (BMI 47.5±7.2 kg/m 2 ) who received CPAP from 8 to 10 cmH 2 O, for 30 minutes, once a day for two consecutive days, in the post-bariatric surgery were studied. Before and after applying CPAP were measured RR and the MV through the ventilometer, and indirectly the TV were calculated . The Shapito-Wilk was applied to check the normality of data, and then the measures were compared using the Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney test. Analyses were processed using the SPSS 7.5 considering the 5% level of significance. There was a significant increase for the following variables in the first and second days of application: RR=20±6 breathing/min versus 26±7 breathing/min (p=0.009), and RR=22±7 breathing/min versus 26±8 breathing/min (p=0,007); MV=9.57±2.75 L versus 12.39±4.18 L (p=0.041), and MV=9.71±2.52 L versus 11,18±2.96 L (p=0.037). The values of TV=360±157,59 mL versus 440±69,18 mL (p=0,21), and 401±90,46 mL versus 416±78,04 mL (p=0,18) did not differ significantly when comparing pre-and post-application in two days therapy. Thus, it was concluded that CPAP can be applied as an auxiliary respiratory therapy in the treatment of patients in post-bariatric surgery for the RESUMO | O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação da pressão positiva contínua nas vias aéreas (CPAP), na frequência respiratória (FR), no volume corrente (VC) e no volume minuto (VM), em pacientes em pós--operatório de cirurgia bariátrica.
Both categories reported complaints/problems linked to professional voice use and stressful workload. However, the perception of vocal impact on the quality of life was positive, and the analysis of stress at work resulted in "good" and favorable conditions. The relationship between voice, work, stress, and quality of life in both the categories require further investigations.
Objective: based on a systematic approach using machine learning, this research aims to propose a model of selection and allocation of assets that allows for building profitable and safe portfolios, even in times of insecurity and low predictability.Methodology: we used the machine learning algorithm called random forest to associate the independent variables with a dependent one and learn the probability of positive returns in the month following the data collection. According to the probabilities, the stocks were allocated into long, short, or non-allocated portfolios. Finally, we allocated a share of gold, which is a protection asset much used in times of crisis and uncertainty. Results and contributions: the study reached its goal and demonstrated being possible to build profitable and safe investment portfolios, even in times of greater uncertainty and volatility, as in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We found that the model is effective in moments of crisis and also of greater predictability, as in the period from 2016 to 2019 when the stock exchange has an uptrend.Relevance: the relevance of this study points to an unprecedented historical context in Brazil, where uncertainties regarding both the local and world economy have demanded advanced studies of prediction to minimize risks and contribute to results for investors. In addition, we highlight that following a short period of low Selic (2019 to 2021), the Central Bank increased the rate again, raising the interest more in profitable and safer assets than the investment in stocks.
