The Outer Membrane Protein (OMP) of Vibrio alginolyticus cell wall was administered intramuscularly (IM) to the tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon Fab.) at 10, 20, 30 μg/kg bw. After 14 days infection, the tiger shrimps were challenged with 107 bacterial density of Vibrio harveyi for 24 hours. The total haemocyte count (THC), differential haemocyte count (DHC) and amount of total protein plasma (TPP), superoxide dismutase and protease enzyme activity were monitored. The results showed that intramuscular administration of OMP enhanced an immunomodulatory effect and protection against V. harveyi. The beneficial effect of OMP on the tiger shrimp is dose-dependent and OMP-20 μg/kg bw is an optimal dose after two times of boosters for 14 days against V. harveyi infection.
The Indonesian traditional local custom known as the Ulayat is a local community right to manage certain surrounded land or water for marine natural resources management. There is recognition that the existence of customary law in Indonesia, especially concerning the fisheries and marine resources management system, is of the important and strategic value of the national effort to support sustainable marine and fisheries resources management. The aims of this research are: to identify the perceptions and aspirations of society toward Local Custom values and the adherence to the prevailing traditional/customary law, and to identify the extent to which opportunities for Local Custom values empowerment can be preserved and utilized in managing the coastal areas in North Lombok. This research uses a case study method (Yin, 2011) and qualitative analysis method. The sampling method is being collected purposively. The research results showed that the perceptions and aspirations of society toward the Local Custom values (called awig-awig) is still very strong and is still being practiced. Society tends to be more convinced that the law enforcement using customary law is more effective and has a strong deterrent effect because there are clear sanctions and prohibitions. It is due in part to distrust of the formal law, which seems arbitrary in pursuing any prosecution. The Local Custom, tradition, and customary law, as well as traditional institutions in North Lombok Regency, have an opportunity to be preserved and further developed by implementing awig-awig.
Arcangelisia flava Merr had been long recognized by the Dayak community at Central Kalimantan. It was used for natural herbal due to its capability to medicate various diseases.
Research on soil temperature in mangrove forest is a part of the mangrove ecosystem microclimate research. Studieson microclimate variables interaction, including soil temperature is important and interesting because it is associatedwith ecosystem and environmental changes, and the biota living in it. This study developed a mathematical modelingof soil temperatures and solar illumination in mangrove forest and the surrounding environment. Mathematicalmodeling function was constructed using data measured on three transects which different in ecosystem condition. The results showed that the mathematical modeling parameters produced the parameters of solar illumination andsoil temperatures that were difference for the three transects. Time lag of soil temperature on solar illumination wasalso diference in the three transects due to the difference of penetration of sun radiation and soil inundation by seawater. These parameters also showed the differences between the soil temperature in mangrove with the soiltemperature in terrestrial forest as studied by the former researcher. Our research demonstrated the charachteristicof soil temperature in mangrove, that was not merely controlled by sun radiation, but also it was contribute by thesea water and other factors.[How to Cite: Medellu C, Soemarno, Marsoedi and S Berhimpon. 2012.
