Problem statement: E-learning is gaining more acceptance as days pass because it provides learning opportunity any time and in any place. Different people have different preferences in terms of learning style such as reading text, listing audio or video, speaking and communication. To support these different learning preferences, there is need for multiple e-learning delivery methods and teaching techniques. Furthermore, there are many stakeholders of e-learning systems such as system developers, administrators, instructors, instructional designers, multimedia designers, online facilitators, independent evaluators. Whose views are important indicators for a complete e-learning system evaluation, but the most important views of e-learning quality are user view, developer's view and manger's view. Approach: The main aim of this study is to propose a new technique to evaluate e-learning website quality from developer's view. To achieve our objective an extensive study on related resources was conducted. Our technique adopts the weights of quality characteristics which are obtained by carefully selected questionnaires' from professional developers. We also present the evaluation process using AHP technique and the result of trial evaluation for validation of our technique Result: We proposed four quality characteristics named Service Content, System Functionality, Information Technology and System Reliability. We further, proposed 11 subcharacteristics with its attributes by following the structure of standard IOS/IEC 912. Conclusion: Our results show that the proposed technique could be useful and effective for ensuring that high quality systems are developed.
In last decade, researchers have often tried to improve the usability, portability, integrity and other aspects of software in order for it to be more users friendly and gain user trust. Several approaches and techniques have been proposed to reduce the negative effects of software size and complexity. Moreover, several software quality models were proposed to evaluate general and specific type of software products. These models were proposed to evaluate general or specific scopes of software products. The proposed models were developed based on comparisons between the well-known models, in order to customize the closed model to the intended scope. These comparisons are leak of criteria that is conducted based on different perspectives and understanding. Therefore, a formal method of comparison between software quality models is proposed. The proposed method is applied on a comprehensive comparison between well-known software quality models. The result of the proposed method shows the strength and weaknesses of those models.
A component-based software system (CBSS) is a software system that is developed by integrating components that have been deployed independently. In the last few years, many researchers have proposed metrics to evaluate CBSS attributes. However, the practical use of these metrics can be difficult. For example, some of the metrics have concepts that either overlap or are not well defined, which could hinder their implementation. The aim of this study is to understand, classify and analyze existing research in component-based metrics, focusing on approaches and elements that are used to evaluate the quality of CBSS and its components from a component consumer's point of view. This paper presents a systematic mapping study of several metrics that were proposed to measure the quality of CBSS and its components. We found 17 proposals that could be applied to evaluate CBSSs, while 14 proposals could be applied to evaluate individual components in isolation. Various elements of the software components that were measured are reviewed and discussed. Only a few of the proposed metrics are soundly defined. The quality assessment of the primary studies detected many limitations and suggested guidelines for possibilities for improving and increasing the acceptance of metrics. However, it remains a challenge to characterize and evaluate a CBSS and its components quantitatively. For this reason, much effort must be made to achieve a better evaluation approach in the future.
Problem statement: In managing knowledge and competencies as a strategic advantage to an organization, there are difficulties in capturing, storing, sharing and reusing all this knowledge. Researchers have agreed that assessing tacit knowledge is difficult because knowhow of an employee are elusive and what more to assess them. It is compounded when employees leave the organization or become unavailable due to their mobility within the organization. As a result various approaches to collection and codification of knowledge have emerged. One of the most important approaches to emerge is knowledge management. Approach: In this study, we presented Knowledge Extract, Profiling and Sharing Network (KEPSNet), framework to facilitate the codification knowledge and competencies management adapting knowledge management processes in capturing, storing, sharing and reusing knowledge and competencies. Results: We enhanced these processes autonomously by capturing knowledge and competencies in tacit and explicit form from members of group project implementation in the form of concept maps and managed, according to knowledge management process. A case study in a software development group setting was evaluated and results of knowledge management processes output generated from KEPSNet prototype are compared with the result from the project manager in managing the project based. Two sets of questionnaires were given to the group members before and after implementing KEPSNet. Conclusion/Recommendations: The result of the evaluation validates the viability of the key concept presented. Codification of tacit knowledge has resulted in the codified knowledge and competencies recognized
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
