<p><strong><em>Background:</em></strong><em> </em><em>The discoloration of teeth is a common aesthetic concern for many patients. It can have a profound effect on their self-esteem, interaction with others and employability. Dental bleaching can be used as a treatment for teeth that are discolored due to intrinsic and extrinsic staining. Vital bleaching is an in-office procedure which utilize 25-40% hydrogen peroxides. Home-bleaching with gels containing 10%, 15%, or 20% carbamide peroxide is recommended after in-office procedure. <strong>Objective:</strong> To overview planning and treatment of vital discoloration teeth with combination in-office and home-bleaching procedure. <strong>Case:</strong> A 31 year old patient complained about her lack of confidence due to yellow looking teeth. The patient told the dentist she used to consume coffee at least twice a day. Measuring teeth color with Vitapan shade guide (VITA Zahnfabrik) resulted in A3 color for maxillary teeth and A3,5 for mandibular teeth as well as shade guide opalescence results in A3,5 color. The teeth were fully cleaned with brush. Gingiva area was isolated using opaldam, and it was activated using light curing unit for 10 seconds in each servikal area. Bleaching material was applied to six anterior teeth and first maxillary and mandibular premolar in 20 minutes, it was activated every 5 minute by stirring bleaching material with tip brush. After done with the procedure, bleaching material was cleaned with suction, whipped by using cotton pellet. Color matching was done after in-office bleaching process using Vitapan shade guide (VITA Zahnfabrik), it was attained A1 color for maxillary teeth and A2 for mandibular teeth. Color matching using shade guide opalescence resulted in W3 color. The patient was instructed to use individual tray through gel containing carbamide peroxide 10% for 8 hours on each day for 1 full week. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> In-office and home-bleaching procedure is the treatment of choice in vital discoloration of teeth.</em></p>
Karies yang tidak dirawat dapat menyebabkan infeksi pulpa. Perawatan infeksi ini adalah perawatan saluran akar. Kegagalan perawatan ini bisa terjadi karena infeksi yang persisten oleh E. faecalis. Pemberian medikamen intrakanal merupakan upaya untuk menghilangkan persistensi mikroorganisme dalam saluran akar. Pasta Ca(OH)2 merupakan obat yang umum digunakan. Sediaan baru pasta Ca(OH)2 dibuat untuk meningkatkan efek antibakteri. Uji sitotoksisitas dilakukan untuk menilai sifat toksik sediaan baru ini sebelum menjadi produk jadi. Sel fibroblas jaringan gingiva dikultur dan diberi ekstrak sediaan baru pasta Ca(OH)2 dan Calcipex. Percobaan dilakukan dalam tiga pengulangan dan viabilitas sel dievaluasi dengan uji MTT. Analisis statistik dilakukan dengan uji One-way ANOVA. Hasil: Perbandingan viabilitas sel pada sediaan baru pasta Ca(OH)2 dan Calcipex menunjukkan bahwa sel yang diberi sediaan baru pasta Ca(OH)2 lebih banyak yang hidup jika dibandingkan dengan Calcipex (p0,05). Kelompok sediaan 1g Ca(OH)2 merupakan kelompok yang memiliki efek toksisitas paling ringan.
Kesehatan gigi dan mulut dapat mempengaruhi kesehatan umum serta kualitas hidup individu.Kesehatan gigi dan mulut bukan hanya merupakan komponen dari kesehatan umum individu dewasa saja, namun juga berperan penting dalam proses tumbuh kembang anak. Masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut dapat mempengaruhi perkembangan dan kesehatan anak secara umum.Karies gigi pada anak dapat menyebabkan hambatan perkembangan dan penurunan tingkat kecerdasan anak, sehingga berdampak negatif pada kualitas hidup anak. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan serta keterampilan para guru serta murid terkait pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Kegiatan survei pendahuluan dilakukan untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan guru dan murid terkait kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Berdasarkan hasil survei, dilakukan pembuatan materi edukasi dalam bentuk poster edukasi serta power point text (PPT). Informasi terkait pelaksanaan acara disebarkan secara digital melalui media sosial WhatsApp Group (WAG). Sebanyak 45 murid kelas 5 dan 6, serta 15 guru berpartisipasi mengikuti acara. Pengetahuan tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut para guru dan murid diukur melalui pre-test pengetahuan dasar pada hari pelaksanaan kegiatan. Materi edukasi yang diberikan terdiri dari pengenalan jenis masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut serta metode pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut.Simulasi cara menyikat gigi yang baik dilakukan dengan menggunakan model gigi. Evaluasi pelaksanaan kegiatan melalui hasil post-test menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut pada guru dan murid
The spread of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has increased over time. The government urges people to take extra measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and maintaining dental and oral health is one of those measures that could help to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. People are taught personal dental and oral health practices as well as the necessary health protocols if they decide to visit a dental health facility. The purpose of this activity is to increase participant’s knowledge of the transmission of COVID-19 and how to maintain their dental and oral health. The method used involved measuring the level of knowledge before and after counseling. Furthermore, online counseling and training were provided through Zoom. The pre and post-test results from 88 participants showed that there was a significant increase in knowledge after counseling.
