Humans need numerous raw materials to compensate for their covering, protection, and energy requirements. Anything obtained from the earth is either mined or grown. Considering excavation and mining operations for different purposes leads people to different design parameters. Living in the underground for civil purposes has its conditions to think about. Caves, abandoned mines, and new purposely opened underground excavations could be used for civil engineering purposes. Rock masses around underground openings opened for any purpose have rock-based structural features besides those originating from excavation operations. Therefore, engineers and designers working on underground space design projects should be ready to deal with them by enhancing their design ability, including their creative thinking. Concentrating on creative arts has usually been mentioned first to improve the original thinking capacity of designers. Uncertain conditions in engineering facts have forced designers to formulate their own solutions by accepting certain risks. Designing futuristic living spaces in/on rock masses needs creative thinking of workers, engineers, scientists, architects, artists, designers, etc. Moreover, skills and knowledge obtained from excavating and using historical underground cities, caves, tunnels, and underground mines for several purposes are also available for evaluation by creative designers. Combining those experiences with rock and soil engineering knowledge improves engineering designs' efficiency. Art and its education play an essential role in enhancing designers' imaginations and thinking capacities. Art's positive impacts on engineering creativity are discussed here to point out the importance of art and art education.
Bu araştırmada Batı ve Türk kültüründe yaşayan Türk öğrencilerin Türk kültürü ve Batı kültürü algılarını ve buna bağlı olarak değişeceği düşünülen estetik beğenilerini tanımlamak ve karşılaştırmak amaçlanmıştır. Nicel ve nitel araştırma yöntemlerinin birlikte kullanıldığı karma araştırma modeli ile desenlenen bu araştırma Almanya ve Türkiye'de yaşayan 12-17 yaş grubu toplam 310 Türk öğrencinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ankette yapıldığı dönem, biçim, form, renk ve konu bakımından benzerlik gösteren Batı ve Türk kültüründen birer eserin yer aldığı 15 soru bulunmaktadır. Öğrenciler her soru için beğendikleri bir eseri tercih etmişler ve her soruda bu eseri neden tercih ettiklerini belirten ifadeler yazmışlardır. Anketten elde edilen nicel veriler SPSS programında (iki yönlü) Kay-Kare testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Kültürü yansıtan eserlerin farklı kültürlerde yaşayan insanlar üzerindeki etkilerini ortaya koymayı amaçlayarak elde edilen öğrenci cevapları ise içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda öğrencilerin estetik tercihlerinde ait oldukları kültürün etkisi hissedildiği gibi içinde yaşadıkları diğer kültürlerin de etkisinin olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Öğrencilerin estetik beğenilerinde dil, din, vatan sevgisi, popüler kültür ve geleneksel kültür motifleri gibi kültürel faktörlerin etkisinin yoğunlukta olduğu görülmüştür.

Engineering covers numerous uncertain decision parameters. Engineering plans based on three dimensional earth locations, work and workplace organizations or designing new technological merchandises are some of the duties of engineers. Engineers are asked to respond full options related with scientific knowledge and improvements in their own subject. They should also have ability to perform consulting and controlling activities by obeying work & workplace safety obligations. They have to grasp and follow all required "engineering responsibilities" in their projects. There are countless influencing aspects on engineering projects. Engineers should have wide perception to handle all scientific, technological, engineering, the art and mathematical (STEAM) features and other shares of tasks in their projects. In design stage, engineers are enquired to act in critical and creative manner to solve real-world, unstructured, burdens. Recently, engineers in all branches, especially in mining industry, have requested more predominately to provide original 3D-plans, robust design products, novel working methods, and practical solutions for technological difficulties (in mines) etc. which all have governed by current social and industrial business conditions. Therefore influences of art on engineering creativities and thinking abilities have been studied here to comprehend its position in engineering education.
