Solutions of copper(I1) P-diketone complexes in CH,CI, or CHCI, react with 2-(aminomethyl)pyridine (AhIP) to produce Cu(AhIP),2+, which precipitates as its chloride salt. mer-Cu(AhlP),]CI,~CH,CI, is monoclinic, space group P2,/c; a = Il.072(1), b = 22.306(3), c = 11.388(2) x ; p = Il7.39(2)"; Z = 4; R = 0.076; R , = 0.068 for 375 parameters and 3477 reflections with I > lo(l). The rrler-Cu(AhIP),Z+ ion has a tetragonally distorted octahedral geometry; distances from Cu to two tratu-oriented pyridine N atoms are elongated (2.420(5) and 2.437(5) A), while the third is normal (2.060(4)&. Distances from Cu to the equatorial NH, N atoms range from 2.012(5) to 2.048(5)A. The chloride ion in this compound is produced by nucleophilic attack of AhlP on the CH,CI, solvent.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
