Barrier coatings against plasticizer leaching are deposited on flexible polyvinylchloride (PVC) films typically used in flooring or in the automotive industry. Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (OMCTS) and hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) are plasma polymerized using plasma‐activated CVD (PA‐CVD) based on an atmospheric pressure (AP) dielectric barrier discharge (DBD). A reduction in plasticizer leaching higher than 80% is achieved with these coatings. The effect of the monomer flow rate, discharge power, and oxygen flow rate on the barrier efficiency is investigated. The coating composition of the best barrier coating has been identified and the long‐time barrier efficiency in contact with an organic solvent has been studied.
This paper describes the possibilities of antimicrobial finishing of three-dimensional spacer fabrics and its applications, and gives information about the different effects. A research project of the Textilforschungsinstitut Thüringen-Vogtland Greiz is presented in which medical shoe insoles, based on specially manufactured three-dimensional spacer fabrics, made of permanently effective antimicrobial yarns were used for interesting and functional textile products. Furthermore, work of the research institute Forschungsinstitut für Leder und Kunststoffbahnen Freiberg is presented which describes the silver-coating process and application of textile materials using antimicrobial substances. The chemical and mechanical stability is investigated, and proof of the effectiveness is supplied. The results show that in the three-dimensional spacer fabrics both - antimicrobial yarn materials and thin silver films with antimicrobial substances - can achieve an antimicrobial effect, even in low quantities.
The controlled thermal release of aqueous solvent mixtures from polymeric gel particles was investigated. A new type of a polymeric gel consisting of a maleic anhydride/poly(ethylene glycol) condensation product as a crosslinking macromonomer and acrylamides was synthesized by solution or inverse emulsion polymerization for the investigation. Afterward a shell of crosslinked polystyrene was coated to stabilize this new kind of "microcontainer" for the application. This concept was shown as generally useful for various mixtures of organic solvents and water. The cloud point temperature of the polymer gel strongly depended on the following parameters: the type and content of organic cosolvent, the degree of polymerization and constituents of the polyester moiety, and the type and content of the comonomers
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
