Aloe vera has been widely used for various therapeutic purposes over the millennia. It is becoming increasingly popular due to its antiviral and antibacterial qualities. For many years, aloe vera has been employed in biomedical research. It's a fantastic way to boost the nutritional value of any food product. This research aims to expand on the nutritional value of cookies by including Aloe vera gel. It would focus on the substance's biological and pharmacological characteristics. The nutritional quality of aloe vera cookies was evaluated after being manufactured with all-natural, chemical-free ingredients. The primary objective was to investigate its functional properties, sensory characteristics, and quality characterization. Quality control was performed on aloe vera cookies, and the results were discussed. The process is quick and straightforward, and it comes at a reasonable cost that boosts nutrient content, but it can also be utilized as a part of a well-balanced diet. Because of its beneficial characteristics, aloe vera-based cookies could be particularly beneficial for most vulnerable groups in underdeveloped countries. The cookies are safe to eat daily as a snack food. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res. 57(2), 117-122, 2022
Oxidative stress is a significant source of the pathogenesis of many chronic diseases; that is why antioxidant behavior is one of the most commonly identified biological activities in citrus fruits. The pulp of citrus fruits is the sticky substance of the fruit's endocarp and contains the fruit's juice. This study scrutinizes the quality assessment, sensory evaluation, and free radical scavenging activity (RSA) of orange (Citrus auranthium) pulp. Free radical scavenging activity was examined by 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay. The quality assessment parameters results showed that the ºBrix of orange pulp was 64.50, pH 3.70, acidity 5.12, ratio 12.58, pulp 9.70%, and SO2 were not detected. On analyzing the sensory evaluation, it was found that orange pulp juice has the score of appearance (7.07 ± 0.146), color (7.27 ± 0.163), flavor (7.52 ± 0.172), taste (6.87 ± 0.156), and overall acceptability (7.60 ± 0.165). The results of free radical scavenging showed that the percentage inhibition was 9.55-54.80 at concentrations of 0.2-1.0 mg/ml. The antioxidant activity of orange pulp may be due to presence of polyphenols, flavonoids and possibly other compounds in orange pulp that are responsible for this activity. Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res. 57(2), 123-130, 2022
PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) in atmosphere are amongst the hazardous identified organic pollutants. The present study was conducted on the determination of PAHs concentrations in the air of Data Darbar Chowk, Lahore, Pakistan. The particulate matters in the atmosphere were collected using high volume samplers. Average Total Particulate Matter (mg) of PM2.5was 20.96 and PM10was 188.7. The concentration of PM2.5was 698.81 ngm-3/hr and 16771 ngm-3/day while concentration of PM10was 6290 ngm-3/hr and 150960 ngm-3/day. Quantification of different PAHs and related compounds was done by using Gas Chromatography. The mean total quantity of PAH in air was 955.588 ngm-3. The mean concentration of dibenzo (a, h) anthracene was highest i.e. 161.33 ngm-3with 13.94 ngm-3 Minimum and 308.72 ngm-3Maximum, concentrations. PAHs concentration was found to be very high in current research. There should be proper control through air management system to tackle with harmfulness of health hazardous organic pollutants. The health claims of locally grown garlic variety/line lehsan gulabi (garlic pink) for the management of serum glucose were explored. In efficacy study, garlic based diets given to the rats i.e. whole garlic (G1), garlic powder (G2) and garlic oil (G3) resulted in reduction in glucose, serum creatinine and serum urea levels, ALT, AST and ALP and elevation in serum insulin as compared to control (G0). The weight of rats substantially suppressed after the intake of different garlic preparations. It is deduced that garlic feeding may prove beneficial in weight management program. The whole garlic consumption proved more effective. The garlic oil caused highest glucose reduction (9.38%). Garlic oil alleviates glucose and insulin related abnormalities more efficiently. Additionally, treatments imparted significant effect on liver and kidney functioning. In the nutshell, pink garlic has potential to curtail different physiological malfunctioning. Thus diet based therapy by selecting suitable food ingredients should be encouraged as a preventive device against various metabolic syndromes among the vulnerable segments in the developing economies.Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res.53(4), 245-252, 2018
