Background The study was designed to assess the prevalence of asymptomatic gallstone disease in North-East part of Bangladesh. Materials and methods Randomly selected asymptomatic persons, unknown to have gallstone disease, from both rural and urban areas were enrolled. They were subjected to abdominal ultrasonography and findings were recorded in a data sheet. Results Total 1,019 persons (316 males and 703 females) were examined. Age of them varied from 18 to 80 years with mean age of 37.22 years. Out of them, 61 (6%) persons were found to have gallstone. Among them, 14 were males and 47 were females. Both male and females of age below 40 years were more affected. Gallstone disease was found more commonly among housewives and middle class people. Among 61 patients with gallstone, seven were underweight (11.47%), 32 (52.45%) had normal weight and 22 (36.06%) were overweight, obese or extremely obese. But, this difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.894). Conclusion Prevalence of asymptomatic gallstone disease was found in 6% apparently healthy subjects of North-East part of Bangladesh. It was more prevalent among housewives and middle class group of population. It is also common among the people of age group below 40 years. Male breast cancer is rare. It accounts for 0.2% of all cancers and about 1% of all breast cancer. Because of the rarity of the disease and the low index of suspension, diagnosis is delayed in a significant fraction of patients. The objective of this article is to increase the medical community's awareness of the disease in this setting and thus favorably change its natural history by earlier diagnosis. <p><strong>Objective:</strong> Renogram using 99m Tc DTPA ( Technetium diethylene-triamine-pentaacetic acid) with diuretic challenge provides important functional data to assist in the diagnosis and management of suspected renal diseases. Renogram is a routinely performed study at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), Rajshahi. This is a referral institute of northern part of the country. The objective of this study was to see the pattern of renogram findings in INMAS, Rajshahi.</p><p><strong>Patients and Methods:</strong> A total 98 patients underwent renogram using Tc99m-DTPA with diuretic challenge from July 2015 to June 2016 were included in this study and a retrospective observation study was done. A total 98 (male to female ratio 1: 0.75) with a mean age 38.6 ± 18.5 years (age range 02 months to 80 years) patients data were analyzed. Some additional imaging and biochemical tests were available at the time of renography eg. Ultrasonography of renal system and serum creatinine level in all cases, X-ray of KUB (kidney-ureter-bladder) region in 44 cases, IVU (intravenous urogram) in 38 cases and urinary routine and microscopic examination in 32 cases only were done.</p><p><strong>Results:</strong> Renogram findings showed obstructive renal disease in single or both kidneys in 57.14% cases, non-obstructive abnormalities in single or both kidneys in 28.57% cases and normal study in 14.29% cases.</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> In this study a variety of renographic diagnosis was observed, most common was obstructive renal disease in 57.14% cases and non-obstructive abnormalities in 28.57% cases.</p><p>Bangladesh J. Background: Breast cancer is a common form of cancer among women globally. Bone is the most common site to which breast cancer metastasizes. Between 30% and 85% of patients with metastatic breast cancer will develop bone metastases during the course of the disease.Objective: To evaluate the pattern and distribution of skeletal metastases in different clinical stages of breast cancer patients by using Tc-99m MDP bone scan.Materials and methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 305 consecutive female breast carcinoma patients referred for bone scan to Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences, Rajshahi from January 2015 to June 2017. All patients were categorized in one of the three groups; early breast cancer (EBC, comprises clinical stage I and II), locally advanced breast cancer (LABC, clinical stage III) and metastatic breast cancer (MBC, clinical stage IV). Bone scan was performed by an intravenous bolus injection of 20 mCi Tc99m-MDP and bone phase images were taken at three hours after injection of the radiotracer.Results: Out of 305 studied patients, 16 patients (5.25%) were in EBC group, LABC patients were 173 (56.72%) and MBC were 116 (38.03%). 98 patients (32.13%) were positive for skeletal metastases. In 16 EBC patients only 01 patient (6.25%) had skeletal metastasis in thoracic spine. Skeletal metastases were 20.81% in LABC and 52.59% in MBC group. Thoraco-lumbar spine was the commonest site in both groups followed by ribs, pelvic bones, upper and lower extremities, cervical spine, sternum, scapula and skull bone.Conclusion: Bone scan should be done in all LABC and MBC patients and in symptomatic EBC at disease presentation. Parts of bone to focus are thoracic and lumbar spine in all stages, followed by ribs, pelvis and extremities. Tc-99m MDP bone scan play a major role in early detection of skeletal metastasis in breast cancer patients.TAJ 2017; 30(2): 47-53
