Increased imbalance between work and family life of university teachers is an alarming issue now-a-days. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between work life balance and organizational commitment of teaching employees of Jashore University of Science and Technology in Bangladesh. Data has been collected from 80 respondents through a questionnaire survey. Pearson correlation and regression model have been developed based on this dataset to get the result. The result shows that significant number of teachers perceived there is a positive impact of work life balance on the level of commitment towards their organization. This study certainly answers the question regarding the impact of work life balance on organizational commitment of the teaching employees. Moreover, further studies are encouraged to analyze the impact of work life balance by incorporating all the stakeholders of an organization which may help to generalize the findings of this study.
This study aims to examine empirically whether financial development can promote economic growth in Bangladesh. It employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model and takes annual data from 1987 to 2019. This study confirms a cointegrating relationship between financial development and economic growth. The nature of this relationship is unidirectional, running from financial development to economic growth. The outcome of the study confirms that financial development, as proxied by private sector loans and broad money supply, augments economic growth in the long-run. As for the control variables, gross domestic savings show an insignificant impact on economic growth when private sector loans are proxied for financial development. However, it confirms a substantial impact on economic growth when broad money supply is proxied for financial development. More interestingly, trade openness, another control variable, suggests an adverse impact on economic growth in the long-run. However, it has a substantial positive influence on economic growth in the short-run. In the short-run, broad money supply at lag 2 and gross domestic savings significantly affect economic growth when broad money supply is proxied for financial development. The findings of this study advocate that a robust and dynamic financial structure in Bangladesh is a critical success factor for developing the country's economic growth.
This study investigates the passengers' adoption of a ride-sharing service app (UBER) in Bangladesh. This study employed the most widely used and cited IT adoption model, The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology-2 (UTAUT2), as the theoretical framework to examine the passengers' adoption of the popular sharing economy tools ride-sharing service applications (i.e., Uber). This study adds a new construct, safety, in the UTAUT2 model. Data were obtained from 206 participants which were analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicated that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation, and facilitating conditions are the most significant determinant factors of behavioral intention to use the Uber app. In contrast, behavioral intention to use the Uber app is not significantly influenced by price value and safety. Additionally, the theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed, which elicits the importance for business managers, marketers, and policymakers on sharing economy platforms.
This paper aims at exploring the dimensions and challenges of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the context of Bangladesh, taking Carroll’s CSR Pyramid as a conceptual framework for explicative analysis. Carroll’s CSR Pyramid is by far the most well-known framework of CSR, which gives relative importance to economic, legal, ethical and discretionary (philanthropic) obligations of corporations towards society. As the countries differ in their economical, social and political conditions around the globe, the dimensions of CSR and the challenges in executing CSR initiatives also differ. This study found that the dimensions currently in practice and applicable to Bangladesh do not follow the same order as proposed by Carroll in the context of developed countries. It is suggested that the relative priorities of CSR in case of Bangladesh are to be in the following order: economic, philanthropic, environmental, legal and ethical responsibilities. Finally, some suggestions for successful execution of CSR initiatives are also given.
Because healthcare systems in developing nations are underfunded and unequal, practitioners must understand how telemedicine may be widely introduced and sustained. Unfortunately, telemedicine adoption receives less attention and there is limited knowledge regarding the interfering influence of patient engagement, satisfaction, and individual innovativeness. Consequentially, the current study seeks to investigate the factors that influence patients’ behavioral intentions toward telemedicine, while acknowledging engagement and satisfaction as mediators and personal innovativeness as a moderator. A questionnaire instrument was used to reach telemedicine users in Bangladesh, and finally, 305 samples were curated and explored applying structural equation modeling in AMOS software. The empirical results show that information quality, performance expectancy, engagement, and satisfaction are strong stimulators of behavioral intention toward telemedicine, whereas functionality, information quality, and performance expectancy drive satisfaction and engagement. One of the worthy findings of this study is that engagement and satisfaction play a significant mediating function, while personal innovativeness plays a moderating role, in influencing behavioral intention toward telemedicine. Confirming engagement and satisfaction as mediators and innovativeness as a moderator adds originality to this research, and overall will help to reduce healthcare bias prejudice among marginalized people in developing countries like Bangladesh.
