The study was done using a qualitative approach through the ethnographic strategy application concentrating on the relationship between the function of berasik which traditionally performed for healing purposes and the animistic religious beliefs which is derived from believe in the existence of spirits (metaphysical entity). The community of berasik practitioners believe that the physical world is influenced by the metaphysical world, especially where it concerned the existence of other worldly beings, the myths and spirits associated with their ancestors. They also believe that the places they inhabit are also shared with the presence of these other worldly, spiritual beings. Based on these beliefs, offerings are prepared and rituals are done in the berasik performance with the main aim of respecting and asking permission from these spiritual beings to help with the healing process. Individual who is able to see spirits is said to be capable and have the privilege of curing a disease caused by tulah (plague) due to the interference of spirits. The artistic works produced signify their spirit towards the artists" cosmology of religious beliefs. Berasik is a combination of the elements of dance, singing, music and acting. Performer in berasik is expected to receive the spiritual characters in order to be able to serve as its embodiment. The embodiment of sacred being or character in berasik is possible by employing certain costume and props. By these devices, the personality of the performer is dispelled and performers are able to embody the sacred being in order to help in healing processes. Contribution/ Originality:This study is one of very few studies which have investigated the embodiment of sacred being or character in the ritualistic performing arts practiced by the Bajau/Sama" ethnic group in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. The research results of the study could contribute to future studies on ritualistic performing arts.
The writing of this social science concept paper is conducted to explore the elements acting method implementation a Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTs) in education. Therefore, by researching the understanding of Secondary School Standard Curriculum (KSSM) in the implementation of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTs), and how teachers make critical transformations Incorporate into the teaching plan, and implement teaching through the curriculum. The research was intended to introduce the modification of the acting method as an alternative method or known as critical pedagogy to strengthening the student aspirations. In addition, the acting method in depth through the transformation approach of Theater Arts such as Constantine Stanislavky (1946), Bertolt Brecht (1956) and Augusto Boal (1978. The culture of education in Malaysia, which is still based on a teacher-centered pedagogical approach, raises the question of the extent to which Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTs) can be implemented more comprehensively by using the acting method in teacher pedagogical. This article discusses the critical pedagogy idea pioneered by Paulo Freire (1970) for creating the transformation of educational culture towards the curriculum. The design of this study is qualitative and case study strategy. The implication of this article is the need to transform the culture of teaching and learning to be more open, friendly, and not too formal as well as to celebrate the diversity of students' ideas through acting techniques. Teachers play an important role in determining the direction of teaching and forming creative, innovative, critical thinking, ethical and disciplined values. This study also provides some suggestions to improve the development of teacher professional identity and Develop guides and reference materials for professional theater and drama programs in education and culture as approaches of the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
This study was conducted to highlight the method in drama as one of the alternative approaches in teaching and facilitation for primary students with special needs focusing on level 2 in dyslexia. This study looked into how the Malay Language's teaching and learning facilitation can improve their literacy abilities. This research applied two cycles of Kemmis action research. A drama activity module using the Environment and Green Technology theme has been modified based on the Malaysian National Standard Curriculum for Special Education in Primary Schools (KSSRPK) for learning disabilities by referring to the Standard Curriculum and Assessment Document (DSKP) in Malay Language subject. Data collection and structured interviews were organized by observing eight participants who were the respondents. Analysis of the findings of this study has shown that the involvement of drama activities has shown increased alertness and interest in learning the Malay Language. These activities have stimulated the joy of learning in the students. This study proved that the drama method could contribute to communication skills to improve students' literacy abilities, especially in reading and reasoning. The method introduced has fulfilled the policy highlighted by the Ministry of Education Malaysia in implementing Standard Curriculum for Primary School teaching and learning strategies through the Learning through Play (BMB) approach specifically for Students with Special Needs (MBK).
