The prevalence of deep sternal infection after cardiac surgery is between 0,5 and 5%, with an average mortality up to 50%. The authors present the case of the rst sternal osteosynthesis carried out in Hungary after postoperative deep sternal infection. Using this orthopedic reconstructive surgical technique in this patient group, an anatomical reconstruction and reposition of the sternum is feasible. With the Titanium Sternal Fixation Synthes system reconstruction of total or partial sternal absence is possible.
Summary: Mycotic and serological examinations were performed in 80 patients undergoing open‐heart surgery before and after operation. In the postoperative phase more yeasts — mainly Candida albicans — were isolated from throat swabs and from the urine than before operation. Out of 110 serological tests, agglutination was positive in 4, complement fixation test in 8 cases. After open‐heart surgery an early Nystatin prophylaxis is suggested since by this treatment the number of Candida mycoses can be decreased or avoided at all.
For the sake of developing, regular usage of assist device therapy in Hungary is a prominent task. Development and application of standard protocols providing better quality in organ donor treatment and donation management have to be pressed.
2013 to make the statistical analysis, we determined the significance level at p<0.05. RESULTS: We measured the 44 firefighters at the beginning, and 13 from them (average age: 35.9 (26.1-45.0 years), who paricipated in the core training program, at the end also. After the program the participants' low back pain significantly (p<0.011) decareased (2.7; 1.0 points), the examined muscles were extensible and their core muscle strenght significantly (p¼0.010) increased (86.1; 118.9 sec). The lumbar motor controll significantly (p<0.001) improved (3.3; 1.0 mm). The balance was different in case of full workgear or casual clothing, especially in the posterolateral and posteromedial direction. CONCLUSIONS: The risks can be possibly reduced with a suitable exercise program. It would be worthwhile to include a preventive core training program in the firefighter's daily program.
