Uncontrolled drug and substance use (DSU) may pose unprecedented threats to nation building and a country’s socioeconomic development. Despite considerable efforts made and resources used to address DSU concerns, Malaysia has seen a significant annual rise in cases of DSU. The bulk of the reported cases originate from youth between the ages of 15 and 40 years. To date, data related to DSU in Malaysia have been entirely dependent on operation statistics, arrest counts, and reported cases; DSU may therefore be under-reported and the data obtained not representative at the national level. This study aims to determine the prevalence of DSU among Malaysian youth through a large nationwide representative survey. Of the population of 11,129,316 youth aged 15–40 years, the prevalence of DSU among lifetime users was found to be 5.5%, while for those who had taken drugs in the past 30 days or who currently use them, the prevalence of DSU was found to be 3.5%. The most popular drugs for lifetime users were kratom or Mitragyna speciosa, while for current users the most popular drug was cannabis. The current study reports the magnitude of the problem at a country-wide level, which is a crucial preliminary effort for crafting evidence-based and well-informed policies.

Emotional abuse is coercive control and expressive aggressive behaviour which involve degrading behaviour such as insults and name-calling between two parties. The issue of emotional abuse in romantic relationship was studied due to limited existing studies and there is a lack of evidence on the occurrence of emotional abuse among students especially in local contexts. This study was conducted to examine the effects of psychosocial factors (five-factor personality traits, loneliness and parenting style) towards emotional abuse among university students in Malaysia who have been in romantic relationships for at least three months. The data of this study was collected through a quantitative method using survey approach. Malay version of Emotional Abuse Quenstionnaire, Big Five Inventory (BFI-10), Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale and Scale of Parenting Style were used in this study. A total number of 273 university students had participated in this study. Multiple linear analysis was used to identify the effects of psychosocial factors on emotional abuse. The results showed that the prevalence of university students in Malaysia experiencing emotional abuse is still at low level. Regression analysis showed that two psychosocial factors, conscientiousness personality trait and responsive parenting style had significant relationships with emotional abuse. The results of this study are significant in understanding the underlying psychosocial factors for emotional abuse. Such understanding is vital to inculcate awareness which act as proactive measures in avoiding oneself from being an emotional abuse victim.
Many disabled people still encounter significant barriers in getting access to transportation, especially those with physical impairments. Although the Malaysian government has developed significant disability provision, policies and legislation since the period of colonialism, disabled people still have difficulties accessing public transport. This paper, therefore, set to explore the experiences of women with physical disabilities in gaining access to public transportation. The study collected the data from in-depth interviews with 33 Malaysian women with physical impairments. The data collection took six months in interviewing twice 17 Malays, eight Chinese and eight Indian women in Malaysia. The majority of informants came from low income and rural families, and thus many of them had limited access to transportation. The findings found that many of the women interviewed revealed that they had experienced significant barriers in getting access to public transports in terms of inaccessibility of public transport and negative attitudes of the public transport providers. Therefore, this article will discuss the study's implication and how it impacts women with disabilities in Malaysia.
