Background: The tectonic activities at the meeting points of three large plates make Indonesia a high-risk disaster-prone area. Nevertheless, disaster risk reduction efforts in various regions of Indonesia are still lacking, in terms of both knowledge and the ability to analyze disaster risks. This study examines the implementation of disaster preparedness and mitigation in Indonesia. Methods: The method used in this study was narrative review. The authors collected the articles through searching for 3 data sources from 2016–2019 using Google Scholar, iSeek, and Microsoft Academic. Content analysis of all information to obtain the thematic phenomena of this study completed the methodological approach. Results: After applying the exclusion criteria and removing duplicates, six studies remained that focused on disaster mitigation in remote areas of Indonesia. Implementation of regulation and policy framework in disaster management is not yet optimal. Disaster preparedness and mitigation is characterized by the low utilization of technology and information related to the disaster, and various obstacles in the process of evacuation and transportation. Promoting local wisdom and enhancing it through integrating science can increase disaster resilience. Conclusion: The existence of a disaster-resilient village is very influential in community preparedness in dealing with disasters and other emergencies. This study provides some recommendations for disaster risk reduction: a) strengthening policies related to evacuation procedures in the health sector by local government, b) integrating transportation modes in remote areas, c) enhancing all parties with education and training, d) establishing community-based information systems; and e) strengthening the disaster resilience of villages.
Indonesia is a disaster-prone area, but it is often found that the response process is slow at the very beginning of a disaster. Furthermore, disasters are often unpredictable. Therefore, simulation of preparedness, mitigation, and disaster management should be conducted continuously and systematically, both in manual and electronic manner by utilizing advance technology in geospatial. The aim of this study to develop a model of geospatial-based information systems in disaster management of reproductive health sub-cluster (SIGAB KESPRO BISA) in Nusa Tenggara Barat. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with several stakeholders. To complete the methodological approach and to obtain the system requirement, a content analysis was done toward in-depth interviews result. The research continued with the development of information system models. The analysis results by in-depth interview indicate the availability of infrastructure and the importance of the system offered. The SIGAB KESPRO BISA model needs to be composed of three main functions, namely preparedness and mitigation systems, logistics distribution, and reproductive health services. The design of the SIGAB KESPRO BISA model has been built to facilitate the process of developing the SIGAB KESPRO BISA application system so that disaster management can be carried out with high effectiveness and efficiency.
Indonesia is an archipelago country that is very vulnerable to natural disasters, the government has made many efforts to prepare the community to face these risks, either directly or indirectly, although many efforts have been made, there are still many casualties that have occurred so that efforts are needed to prepare a more massive and integrated by involving various related sectors, thus preparedness and mitigation efforts can reach a wider community and facilitate the integration process with various fields by utilizing renewable geospatial technology. With a wide reach, there will be more benefits to the community, especially vulnerable groups, one of which is the youth group, which are vulnerable to experiencing reproductive health problems. The purpose of this study was to design and build a Geospatial Based Adolescent Reproductive Health Disaster Alert Information System in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). To obtain system requirements, data collection had been carried out through in-depth interviews with several stakeholders, followed by the design and development of information systems. The method of designing and developing an information system that was used was the prototyping method where the system was designed and developed in accordance with the identification of system requirements result. Based on the results of this disaster preparedness information system laboratory trial, all components of the information system can be run properly. It is hoped that this system can be tested directly at the field level and can be further developed, especially feature that support community involvement in the use of applications to improve disaster preparedness and mitigation.
