Multicriteria decision making (MCDM) is one of the methods that popularly has been used in solving personnel selection problem. Alternatives, criteria, and weights are some of the fundamental aspects in MCDM that need to be defined clearly in order to achieve a good result. Apart from these aspects, fuzzy data has to take into consideration that it may arise from unobtainable and incomplete information. In this paper, we propose a new approach for personnel selection problem. The proposed approach is based on Hamming distance method with subjective and objective weights (HDMSOW's). In case of vagueness situation, fuzzy set theory is then incorporated onto the HDMSOW's. To determine the objective weight for each attribute, the fuzzy Shannon's entropy is considered. While for the subjective weight, it is aggregated into a comparable scale. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the HDMSOW's.
Industry 4.0 revolution, with its cutting-edge technologies, is an enabler for businesses, particularly in reducing the cost and improving the productivity. However, a large number of organizations are still too in their infancy to leverage the true potential of Industry 4.0 and its technologies. This paper takes a quantitative approach to reveal key insights from the companies that have implemented Industry 4.0 technologies. For this purpose, 238 technology companies in Malaysia were studied through a survey questionnaire. As technology companies are usually the first in line to adopt new technologies, they can be studied better as leaders in adopting the latest technologies. The findings of this descriptive study surfaced an array of insights in terms of Industry 4.0 readiness, Industry 4.0 technologies, leadership, strategy, and innovation. This research paper contributes by providing 10 key empirical insights on Industry 4.0 that can be utilized by managers to pace up their efforts towards digital transformation, and can help the policymakers in drafting the right policy to drive the digital revolution.
A radiation pattern of a reconfigurable pixel structure antenna that operates in three steerable beam directions of {-40º, 0º, 40º} is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a circular driven structure on the bottom layer with a pixel structure placed in the top layer. The pixel structures of small square-shaped metallic patches are used to provide beam steering reconfiguration capabilities to the antenna. The adjacent pixels are connected by PIN diode switches with ON/OFF status to change the electrical geometry of the pixel surface, which changes the current distribution on the antenna, thus provides reconfigurability in beam steering direction. The proposed antenna operates at 9.5GHz frequency for X-Band radar application. This antenna is capable to achieve a tolerable return loss of less than -10dB with an average gain of 8 dBi at all desired angles.
Total quality management (TQM) practices are one of the remarkable management initiatives adopted by the hotel industry to conserve the environment and ameliorate the quality of life while executing activities. Due to the existence of the value creation notion, economic value is no longer the only prerequisite assessing hotel sustainability performance, environmental and social aspects should also be considered when evaluating sustainability performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between TQM practices and sustainability performance, taking into account the environmental, economic and social aspects. A questionnaire survey is conducted among 238 hotels with ISO 9001 certification in Malaysia. Structural equation modelling is employed to assess the relationship between TQM practices and sustainability performance. The findings of this study reveal that employee management has the most significant impact on sustainability performance. Hence, it is posited that the hotels in Malaysia are extremely concentrated on employee engagement in the implementation of TQM practices to accomplish sustainability objective.
